Two Charged In Caroline Co. Armed Robbery

(FEDERALSBURG, MD) – Maryland State Police criminal investigators have charged two suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a Caroline County convenience store earlier this month after they were arrested for similar crimes in Delaware.

The suspects are identified as Kurtis L. Jenkins, 28, of Seaford, Delaware and Tyler J. Micheliche, 26, of Federalsburg, MD. Both are charged on warrants with two counts each of armed robbery, first degree assault, second degree assault and reckless endangerment. Maryland State Police have filed detainers on both suspects with Delaware, where they are currently being held after being arrested by State Police there on January 15, 2017.

On January 9, 2017, shortly after 9:30 p.m., Maryland State Police were called to respond to a reported armed robbery at a convenience store in the 3800-block of Smithville Road, Federalsburg, Md. Responding troopers and sheriff’s deputies learned two suspects, both who were reportedly wearing masks and armed with handguns, entered and robbed the store of cash from the register. The clerk was not injured in the incident.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division conducted an investigation into the robbery. On January 16, 2017, Maryland State Police investigators were notified by Delaware State Police that they had arrested two suspects in Delaware for armed robberies similar to the one committed in Maryland. Troopers from Maryland met with Delaware troopers and determined evidence obtained in Delaware linked the two suspects to the armed robbery in Caroline County.

After consultation with the Caroline County State’s Attorney’s Office, Maryland State Police criminal investigators applied for and obtained warrants charging both suspects with charges listed above. Delaware officials were notified of the charges and will contact Maryland when the suspects are able to be extradited back to Maryland to face charges here.
