Marc Kilmer, Wicomico County Council

Today the county council voted to provide subsidized tuition to some Wor-Wic students. I joined Joe Holloway in voting against this proposal. I did make a successful motion to amend the resolution to limit this program to students in families that have a household income below $75,000. If this program was going to pass (and the votes were there for it to do so), I thought it was best to ensure that it was more limited than originally proposed and that it was actually targeted at those who may struggle to pay for Wor-Wic. Even with this change, I still do not think this is the best use of our tax dollars.

  1. With a family income of $74,999, we're not struggling.

  4. I'll tell you a secret... Students whose families make more than $75,000 a year DON'T GO TO WOR_WIC!!!

  7. 6:24 PM - not a bad analogy. In some states, Wor-Wic is the equivalent to a practical (vs. academic) high school education.

  8. I graduated from SDHS in 01 and classes at Wor-Wic were more equivalent to 9th or 10th grade. Stopped going, won't go back. Teachers for the most part were garbage.

  9. Totally agree with 6:24,., graduating from WW is not exactly achieving academic excellence,.,
its just letting the local high schools off the hook :-(
Especially when being allowed to remain enrolled, only requires keeping a 2.0 GPA.
    That is RIDICULOUS!!!
Any moron can get a 2.0!
I've met 'graduates' from WW, and they are NOT the definition of best and brightest,.,
altho, sadly, they believe that that ^^ is what attending real COLLEGE is all about,., IT ISN'T.
    Raise the bar!!!
A college education is EARNED, not given.
The more this country continues to de-value those things deemed as hard work and success, the more the bar is lowered.
The bar is low enough now.
    VERY FOOLISH IDEA!
