BREAKING NEWS: WORLD GYM IN SALISBURY CLOSED THEIR DOORS TODAY

There's now a note on the front door stating they are now closed and undergoing renovations for the next two months, NOT TRUE.

The Salisbury World Gym has been in and out of court a lot recently based on financial issues. Today the Sheriff's Office evicted and escorted ALL of their employees and customers off the premises.

  1. That's crazy. Also Checkers has doubled the price of their ice cream cones, causing many disgruntled customers to stop going there, too. I think that shopping center is jinxed. Ever since Montgomery Wards and Blockbuster left, it's been a revolving store. Only originals are the Optical place, Levis and Kinko's.

    5. The owner of Jonescraft a.k.a. the levi's store. He was busted on heroin charges a few years back & was doing it from home & work, if i recall correctly.

    6. Maybe they'll come to Pocomoke! Rent is cheap and the gym scene sucks! The Y there is the worst I've seen!

  2. What about all the people who've bought membership packages? What happens to them? Are they just screwed?

    2. The attorney general oversees health clubs. You should contact the AG about your situation. I think health clubs have to be bonded to collect more than a few months' fee. You might get your money back if the bond was in place.

  3. Since when does renovations include deleting their Facebook page and not being listed as a location on worldgym.com? Plus, they were still signing up new members last week. Shady!

  7. World Gym Salisbury today communicated by email with all members. The following quote is really a C&P extrapolation from the two primary general distribution notices I received:

"To all of our valued World Gym Salisbury members:

"World Gym Salisbury is closed until further notice.

"We are still negotiating with the leasing company, but as of now, we are not open for business.

"Regarding any and all monthly billing ... ALL membership accounts have been frozen, regardless of your membership type."

As for the observant posters on the stability of the Center, there was no mention of the world famous Jack Stanley's Red Door Sub Shop. How long has the Greek Pita Place been there? Other shopping spots in Salisbury have remained quite stable: The Center still has all it's original tenants - right?; how about that shopping village on Roland Street?; of course all the business in operation the entire length of business 13 when Montgomery Ward closed are still flourishing, just like Penny's, Rite Aid, Ralph & Gaskill, Woolworth's, and Vernon Powell on the Plaza are stronger than ever. Yep, it's that one building causing the blight on Salisbury.

  13. 7:45 3k wasted. They will never pay a soul. Seen this before. As for Power House you can go hang out with the roid boys. The kid out of jail yet for drug trafficking. Now that is a shady crew. What kills me is they all lie about the roids then they get popped with them. Olympia or the Y period.

  14. Not surprising!!! Rent for a business on Route 13 is outrageous!!!! Just ask anyone that's worked at Shelia'a Party Supplies, Mr. Curleys, Quizno's, English's, Benadts Flourist, Shell Gas station, Zia's, Break Time Pool Hall Fractured Prune & so many others!!! Real Estate company's are cleaning up on rent prices!!

  19. The owner should be charged criminally. No ethics what so ever. Maybe Powerhouse can wake up and start marketing itself as a FAMILY fitness center and push out all the drug dealers and juiceheads.

  25. 9:49 Nooooooo. I hope that's not true. They have the best chicken pita in the world and their salads are great. Gus is the hardest working man in Salisbury.

  26. SAD!! Feel bad for the displaced loyal members and good staff. I don't feel sorry for those who kept the lies going. Struggle is sometimes what you go through but they continued to lie about their status. If you stayed in hopes this would change - that was your choice. You could look around and watch it crumble. You never saw the owner in there making repairs to the equipment. They were dishonest about the so much and still are trying to keep the loyal people in the grips. Let it all go and let them find new places and move past your lies. It is what it is and the doors are closed. If you have been removed from WORLD GYM search...this is no bump in the road as one employee has said. These are not renovations as the note on the door said. Feel good about being dishonest yet????

  29. Not defending World Gym but it was not a gym for Roid Heads. You will have those type of people in every walk of life. That Gym in its day was a good place. The set up and location was perfect. What happens is people get caught up and can't get out. For those of you who are unfamiliar there are many Good people and amazing friendships that were formed at this Gym. My suggestion is invest in yourself and know when change is good. Open new doors and close old ones. No one here is perfect and certainly we will make some mistake in life. I know I have made a few....they build character. I accomplished a lot when I was a member of that gym....fitness and friendships that are still going strong!! I knew before the stuff really got thick it was time for "MY" choice to be made and not one that was made for me. I did depart on good terms as a member and have no regrets. I still have friends there who are stuck in this spot and to them I wish the calm from after this storm. Be well people and good luck!!

  30. Planet Fitness is the place to be! Can't beat their prices and right now they have a deal where you can sign up for the highest membership without any kind of commitment. It's at least worth a quick stop to get some info!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Planet Fitness is not a real gym. No gym should serve bagels and pizza and candy. That's not a motivation to work out. No to mention the gym is basic. Take your money and go to Live Fit or powerhouse if you want a real gym

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's better than the Y! It's a lot more of a reasonable price too. I agree that Powerhouse is a much better option with a lot more to offer. If someone lacks the discipline to stay away from pizza and bagels it's their own fault!

  33. Well now we have the World Gym building - soon to be vacant and it can join the long list of other vacant commercial buildings like soon to be SuperG, and not to mention the old Shiela's Party supplies - that was suppose to be bought and operated by SuperG as a discount gasoline outlet. Owe yes - let's go on down the road and visit the many other vacancies like former Curley's, and a whole cadre of other commercial vacancies to the building just north of Curley's - at the sharp turn on Rt. 13. Now let's jump over on Eastern Shore Drive - lookout - cause there are so many vacancies to list that I cannot count. Signs everywhere - advertising AVAILABLE.

Bottom line - Salisbury and Wicomico are not doing very well economically. Of course - the observation should be obvious to most anyone except the MSM.
Some establishments are even exhorting to offering teaser gimmicks like 3 months free rent to try and entice potential customers.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 3 free months is not a gimmick. I was offered 3 free months and it gave me time for start up. 4 years later still in business. Every place in every region gives 3-6 free months. Obviously you've never owned a business or was a pushover when signing a lease.

  34. To 8:18 AM Poster - so true. My wife and I were just commenting about this ja few days ago when we went in town to buy a watermelon at Harris's on South Division Street. I said to my wife that it looked as though the whole town is Available. It is a very depressing observation.

  35. 8:18 remember it doesnt matter what happens to the rest of Salisbury, it only matters what happens to downtown.
