Troopers Investigate Single Vehicle Fatal Crash West of Delmar

Delmar, DE – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash that killed one person.

The incident occurred around 10:06 p.m. Monday April 18, 2016 as a 37-year-old Laurel man was operating a 2004 Mini Cooper northbound on Providence Church Road just north of Pine Branch Road. The operator lost control of the vehicle as he entered a slight left curve and exited the east side of the roadway where it struck a driveway culvert causing the vehicle to go airborne and then strike a ditch embankment. The small car continued north and struck a tree with the front bumper before rotating clockwise and coming to a stop. Shortly after coming to stop, the operator was pulled from the vehicle as it became engulfed in flames.

The 37-year-old male was the lone occupant of the vehicle. He was transported by EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this case. Providence Church Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

  1. Condolences to the family. Is this area of Providence still 50mph? How many deaths will it take for DelDot to realize this road is made up of neighborhoods and set the speed accordingly? I hope at least the news will do a follow up, which they never seem to do! You hear about a crash, but then they don't report the findings of crash investigations.

  2. What differences does it make what the speed limit is posted at? 35, 40, 45, or 50, that rode is safe at either of those speeds, It makes all the difference if you are following the speed limit. JMO
