Obama fires back at Senate Republicans in Supreme Court battle

President Obama fired back Tuesday at Senate Republicans pre-emptively threatening to block his eventual nominee to succeed the late Justice Antonin Scalia, saying at a press conference that the Senate has “more than enough time” to consider his pick and he intends to press ahead.

“The Constitution is pretty clear about what is supposed to happen now,” Obama said. “When there is a vacancy on the Supreme Court, the president of the United States is to nominate someone. The Senate is to consider that nomination.”

Obama, in his most extensive remarks on the vacancy since the 79-year-old Scalia was found dead at a Texas ranch on Saturday, rejected widespread calls by Republican lawmakers and 2016 candidates to defer to the next president to fill Scalia’s seat.

“There is no unwritten law that says that it can only be done on off-years. That’s not in the constitutional text,” Obama said, blasting what he called an “obstructionist” Senate.

Now this deceitful POS hypocrite wants to quote the Constitution. He's all but burned it in his other actions but now that it's in his favor he wants to rely on it.

  3. As 10:46 stated it seems Obama wants to pick and choose what parts of the Constitution he wants to choose or ignore.

  4. Interesting that he would quote Scalia on the Constitution in this instance, and has avoided following the Constitution with everything else!

  6. obama, the biggest violator of the Constitution in American history, NOW wants to quote from it and lecture us on what it says?
This is the same "Constitutional professor" who said the Supreme Court shouldn't be able to overturn laws passed by Congress.
And his name was mentioned as a possible Supreme Court justice in the future???
Did I also mention what a totally incompetent bozo he is?
He needs to go back to Chicago and start some street protests and help some more ghetto losers sign up for welfare. "President" is NOT his forte.

  8. There is no set amount of Judges that sit on the Supreme Court. I believe they increased from the original number of Judges 3 times since the beginning. I believe there was a period of 2 years that the Supreme Court had a vacancy before it was filled. This is just a political ploy by the hypocritical DemocRATS.
