Aerosmith Frontman Asks Trump Campaign To Stop Using Song
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is asking Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to stop using the power ballad “Dream On” at campaign events.
Attorneys for Tyler sent a second cease-and-desist letter to Trump’s campaign committee on Saturday.
The letter says that Trump does “not have our client’s permission to use `Dream On”‘ or any of Tyler’s other songs and that it “gives the false impression that he is connected with or endorses Mr. Trump’s presidential bid.”
Huge fan of Aerosmith. Best hard rock concert I probably ever saw back in 1976. Slade, REO Speedwagon and Aerosmith.. Still listen to their music. But, Tyler is still out there. Doing alot of different things. Completely understand him not wanting his music used. That's a tough call for a group as good as they were. And I know I turn off groups that support dems. even if I liked them.
This type of thing has happened several times recently and it seems like the bands in question haven't been a blip on the radar for many years.Is this a way for a washed up band (as prior comments have suggested) to generate funds?
345-When Aerosmith tours, they're one of the highest grossing revenue tours worldwide. Between 1990-2014, they are the 18th highest grossing act worldwide, with over $418M in tour generated revenues. Not bad for playing a total of 582 concerts in that stretch.
Tyler can complain until he's blue in the face and the lawyers can posture all night long but as long as the Trump campaign purchased a license through ASCAP they can use any song they want. You can bet your last nickel Trump's covered.
Aerosmith like all famous artists are members of ASCAP and would not have any control over whether their recordings were used so long as a license fee was paid to ASCAP. It's their song sure, but if a major record label is involved, they don't own the recording.
The Pretenders tried to stop Rush from using their tune, My City Was Gone.
I see Tylers point completely. If I hear a band Playing for a democratic canidate, I won't listen to them again. Happened with Fleetwood Mac. Liked their music, till they were allowing a democrat pres. canadate to use it. I have never listened to them again. Tyler is a Republican. But, he cuts off a large portion of his support and fans, by alienating himself to Trump or any political affiliation like that..
I hope Trump finds another song. Wouldn't want to use any song by someone who looks like Tyler.

The news this morning said he admitted to being a Republican. I highly doubt that and I doubt it is copyright laws he is concerned with.
He just wants to get paid for the use of the song. As he/Aerosmith should be.

If I was in a rock band I would be ecstatic that one of my songs was used in a presidential campaign.
