Breaking News: Scott Walker to drop out of 2016 race
WASHINGTON (CNN) —Scott Walker is dropping out of the Republican presidential race, according to a GOP strategist close to the campaign and a senior GOP adviser with knowledge of his plans.
The governor of Wisconsin entered the primary in July as a front-runner -- a darling of both the conservative base and powerful donors after winning his battles against public unions in his left-leaning home state.
Walker has called a 6 p.m. ET news conference in Madison, Wisconsin, where he is expected to announce his decision to withdraw from the race.
It's the right move. He should be lauded for making a good decision. Another time, yes. Now we need to have Huckabee, Rand Paul, and some others take the same route. The overbloated field is destructive.
FYI -- in his speech about withdrawing, Gov. Walker made it clear he was trying to set up Trump's downfall and asked the other marginal candidates to withdraw so that it would come down to Trump against the best of the bunch.
Pledges have been broken before, or are you all new to politics? Trump is his own man and when the GOP breaks their pledge, Trump will have the opportunity to go either way. He certainly doesn't NEED the GOP, but it's useful for him right now.
