SCAM ALERT: Phone Scammers Posing as Power Company

The Princess Anne Police Department is advising that phone scammer, posing as Delmarva Power and other power companies are calling local businesses threatening to disconnect power for past due bills. The scammers are asking business owners to purchase pre-paid cards to make the payment. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THIS IS A SCAM. If you receive a suspicious phone call by someone claiming to be the power company demanding payment; hang up and contact your power company directly.

    It happened to us last month. We knew it was a scam because we had a current statement where it had been paid and what the current amount was. My husband played along with them got phone numbers etc. and we turned it over to the police. No one is going to call and turn off your electric. If you dont have a past due notice be smarter then they are.

    We called several days ago DPL and no one answered for 15 minutes. Then we hung up.

    Found several reports regarding these Delmarva Power scams at http://www.whycall.me/302-746-6014.html. I think police should track them down and arrest them all! Very annoying people.
