Department of Justice indicts U.S. Congressman on corruption charges

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — The U.S. Department of Justice has indicted a sitting U.S. Congressman on charges of corruption.

Chaka Fattah, a Democratic congressman from Philadelphia, faces charges related to corruption and racketeering – known as a RICO case. Fattah has served in the House for 21 years.

Prosecutors say one of Fattah's schemes involved siphoning federal money to finance his losing bid for Philadelphia mayor in 2007.

The problems surrounding Fattah run deep. His son was charged last year for corruption and two of his close advisors have already pleaded guilty to corruption. One of those advisors is Thomas Lindenfeld. He’s a longtime political advisor from D.C. who also worked on Mayor Muriel Bowser’s campaign.

  6. Probably so blatant and overwhelming that they could no longer ignore it.
Nothing guarantees he will be convicted, though. This may be a dog and pony show.

  10. "In August 2014, Fattah's longtime aide and close confidante Gregory Naylor pleaded guilty to federal charges in a complex money laundering scheme used to hide an illegal million dollar loan that a currently unnamed candidate received for his failed mayoral campaign in 2007 and then paid back using federal grant money intended for nonprofit organizations that Fattah is affiliated with."

His name change came as a kid when he and his brothers were adopted.
