New Castle, De.-The Delaware State Police have arrested a Correctional Officer with the Delaware Department of Corrections, after it was reported that he had sexual relations with an inmate.On Friday June 19, 2015, Delaware State Police Detectives initiated an investigation after being contacted by the Department of Corrections reporting a 27 year old female inmate at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution disclosed that she had had sexual relations with Fred Way III, a Correctional Officer assigned to the facility. The 27 year old female inmate later contacted prison officials who reported the incident to the state police.
Through further investigation it was determined that the incidents occurred on at least two different occasions dating back to June 12, 2015.
Detectives obtained a warrant charging Fred Way III with two counts of Sexual Relations in a Detention Facility and one count of Official Misconduct. Way turned himself in to Detectives early this afternoon at Troop 2. He was arraigned at JP2 and released on $5000.00 unsecured bond.
Inquiries as to Fred Way’s employment status should be directed to the Delaware Department of Corrections.
