Wicomico Public Libraries’ Executive Director Receives Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneurial Spirit Award

Wicomico Public Libraries is pleased to announce that Executive Director, Andrea Berstler, is this year’s recipient of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. This new award recognizes and celebrates an individual or organization that supports, promotes, encourages and fosters entrepreneurship in our community. This year’s award was presented in recognition of Wicomico Public Libraries’ work in strengthening its business partnership through several new initiatives, most notably the Entrepreneur Center and the Launch/SBY project.

Executive Director Berstler’s acceptance speech demonstrated that this award was a win for the entire library team. “When we realized that there was not going to be a new downtown library, the staff was challenged to ‘build a new library without a new building.’ I encouraged them to do what entrepreneurs do, to do the best with what you have and to try new things. They embrace this approach, creating several new services and programs, culminating in the Entrepreneur Center and Launch/SBY. I am very proud of the work we have done.”

In the past 3 years the Library staff, board and volunteers have completed several projects including opening the Friends of the Libraries’ book store “The BookShelf”, holding Summer Reading community Fairs at all three Library locations, hosting the Friends’ Light of Literacy Awards Breakfasts, restoration of Sunday hours during the school year, launching the Education Center to expand the downtown’s educational offerings through a partnership with WorWic Community College’s Adult Diploma program (Adult Basic Education), and the opening of the Entrepreneur Center and the Launch/SBY project. Future projects include a new online service to provide streaming music, audiobooks, TV shows and movies and improvements to the Library’s Homework and Teen areas.

Wicomico Public Libraries are located in Downtown Salisbury, the Centre at Salisbury, in Pittsville, and the Library Bookmobile. Wicomico Public Libraries offer numerous resources such as free Internet access, a variety of classes and events, and an online eBooks library, and it

  1. Does it make sense that a non profit government organization wins an award for entrepreneurship ?

  2. B.S. Period.
    Library's promote Government dependence.
Berstler like all Government hacks are stealing tax payer funding to promote left wing agendas and line their pockets for nothing in return.

  3. What a joke.
The center was bought and paid for by wasting public funds on luxuries we simply can not afford for people that should have payed attention in school in the first place!
This woman knows nothing about entrepreneurship!
She is a lifelong government library employee living off public funding.
Everything she owns was bought and paid for by tax payers. I'd be embarrassed to admit that!
