Berlin: Downtown Bomb Threat

Berlin Police Department – On March 6, 2015 at approximately 6:00 pm, The Berlin Police Department received an anonymous call at which time the caller stated that he planted 10 homemade bombs in and around the first block of N. Main St, Berlin, Worcester County, Maryland. The anonymous caller revealed he placed 10 bombs that were set to go off in 3 hours. The caller stated the bombs were placed in or around an address but failed to give a business name. The Berlin Police Department, The Worcester County Bureau of Investigations with members of the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, and members of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office evacuated the Globe Restaurant, The Atlantic Hotel and Rayne’s Reef Restaurant (only opened businesses at the time) and one residence. After the evacuation the first block of N. Main Street and the surrounding area was scanned by a Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team (bomb dog). The search revealed negative results.

The investigation into who made the bomb threat and why they made the bomb threat are ongoing and the primary investigation of this incident has been assigned to The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation. Any follow-up questions should direct to WCBI (410) 632-1111.

  1. Glad it didn't turn out to be more than a threat!
Out of curiosity, why was Dorchester County involved? Is it because Worcester doesn't have a K-9 team?
