Life In Pictures (4 of 5)

  1. Dear Joe, I know you only report the news and have no control of its content or if it's happy news or tragic news or anything in between.

And you have guidelines what people may say in their comments, such as no racists comments, no swear words, most times no links are allowed, etc.

You either allow the comment to go through or you do not. We all know that by now and it's probably the fairest things you can do to appease as many people as you can that come here.

It's not your editing, or your reporting on whatever you choose to report on that I want to address. You do a fine job and have been doing so for quite a number of years, free of charge.

I would like to address the commenters themselves.

I come here several times a day, every day. I read the articles and the comments and I offer my own comments as well.

But lately it's becoming such a chore to read some of the rather uncouth, rude and just plain nasty comments from some people.

I am sure I have been guilty of some of those things a time or two myself. I have made and will continue to make efforts to be more civil and polite to others on here and I am asking others to do the same.

I am not violating anyone's right to free speech as I know everyone can say whatever they want to say.

But I am asking if we all cannot do it in a much more civilized and courteous manner.

Everyone gets frustrated at others at times, and most are passionate about what they believe. That is all fine and good but when we resort to name calling, insults, personal attacks and such, part of our message gets lost and the targeted person usually feels the need to respond in kind.

Joe has built up a wonderful platform where we all can voice our opinions and views, even influencing local politicians who no doubt read this blog as well.

I wish you continued success in this new year and I hope you find my words and suggestions worthwhile to share with your many viewers.

Sometimes you read something you just have to respond to and sometimes you do so with anger and maybe outrage.

I suggest after your type your response, but before you click send, take a few seconds and reread it and see if you can still make you points and opinions known without personally attacking the other person or groups.

Words have power and reading a well thought out, respectful comment will most likely encourage others to do the same in response and throughout the blog.

I think this is a simple request and really would not take that much effort on anyone's part just to be nice, courteous and neighborly, even while disagreeing.

We all want change in the world, this would be just one small step towards a positive change that I feel would make everyone's live that much better.

    Thank you for the time.
