A Message From U.S. Representative Andy Harris

Andy Harris, M.D.

In November, Speaker Boehner was re-nominated by the Republican House Conference without a single opponent stepping forward. That was the appropriate time for an alternative to step forward and be considered by House Republicans. Today’s vote on the House floor was simply whether Nancy Pelosi or John Boehner was going to be Speaker of the House. I hope that we can now move forward and work with the Senate to pass common-sense conservative policies. If Speaker Boehner does notdeliver on his promises, a Republican House Conference can be called by 50 members and I would join in that call. I have no problem standing up for conservative principles to the Speaker and Republican leadership, such as my vote against the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, as well as my votes against the Ryan-Murray budget deal and debt ceiling increases. Please know that I will continue to fight for conservative values and Maryland’s First District in the 114th Congress.

  1. Mr. Harris it wasn't until December when Mr. Boehner basically slapped his base in the face by approving this Cromulous spending bill.

There were many of us who were not happy with Mr. Boehner but tolerated him in hope he would be a better Speaker when the Republicans got the majority.

Sadly as soon as we won the majority who basically betrayed all of us by ignoring the mandate the voters gave the republican party with such a successful election.

So yes November may have been the time to change Speakers but he didn't show his true colors until December and now the voters will make everyone that supports this democrat in Rhino's clothing pay for their ignorance.

Bottom line is we expected a lot of change from this election and while it is very early Mr. Boehner showed us that our opinions as his base does not matter to him.

Business as usual in Washington will not be tolerated.

I can't stand Nancy Pelosi but she was a very powerful Speaker of the House. You knew she was in charge and she had some balls. Yes she is nuttier than a fruitcake and was on the wrong side of every issue but she was still a powerful Speaker.

Now we Republicans have this wet noodle who inspires nothing but contempt from his own base as the leader of our party in Washington.

Hate to break it to you, but the Tea Party IS NOT the republican base.

  3. This is a sad day for America, Speaker Beohner is not the best person for the job. We can only hope that he will eventually be thrown out.

  5. I've lost all respect for Harris. It's simply not true that the vote was for Beohner or Pelosi. Had there been 29 votes against Beohner than the Republicans would have put up another candidate that would have won the majority. It would not have been possible for Pelosi to win unless the Republicans had voted for her and I don't think they are that crazy yet. This is why we need term limits so badly.
