Kmart Ruins Christmas By Canceling Layaway Orders, Holding Onto Refunds

There’s an unhappy wind blowing toward Kmart right now, and it’s coming from the direction of disgruntled customers who say that after the retailer notified them of a Dec. 14 deadline to pay off layaway balances in order to have their items delivered by Christmas, the retailer has been canceling orders left and right, saying items are “out of stock.” Not only that, but some shoppers say they’ve been told their refunds won’t arrive until after it’s too late to buy new Christmas presents to replace the canceled layaway items.

  1. I seriously doubt they will be in business much longer. They closing under performing stores all across the country. Some of them have already closed in the Baltimore area. Wonder how much longer Sears will be here in Salisbury?

  2. At this rate, neither K-Mart or Sears will be around much longer. What a crappy thing to do.

  3. That's what happens when hedge fund managers get into buying businesses they know nothing about.

  4. the Salisbury store does not have a Christmas deadline unless u bought seasonal items..that must be coming from online orders or distribution center..unlike Wal-Mart u can put almost anything layaway at Kmart even clothes and there is only a 10 minimum u must put down.

  5. This is not a new policy. As a k-mart customer I was made aware of that over years i put items on lay-away.
k-mart forced walmart's hand to do layaway again several years ago.
It's customers not listening or reading posted dates.
