It's a wonder more snakeheads aren't caught locally. Some friends of mine routinely fish in different rivers in Md,Del,and Pa and bring the snakeheads they catch back and turn them loose in the Wicomico. They say they're very good eating & not a threat to humans.
On down the road after all of the other species of fish you USED to like to catch are gone, you can thank you friends. These fish prey on every other fish as a food source. Wikipedia Quote: Snakeheads became a national news topic in the United States because of the appearance of Channa argus, commonly known as northern snakeheads, spawning in a Crofton, Maryland, pond in 2002. Northern snakeheads became permanently established in the Potomac River around 2004 and possibly established in Florida. Apparently, unestablished specimens have been found in Wawayanda, New York, two ponds in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and reservoirs in North Carolina. On August 16, 2011, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control fisheries biologists captured a 25-inch snakehead in Beck's Pond, which they asserted had been illegally introduced. On March 28, 2012, Don Cosden, from Maryland's Department of Natural Resources confirmed that they were offering prizes for catching and killing any snakehead fish. To enter the contest, anglers had to catch, kill, and then post a picture of themselves with a dead snakehead caught in Maryland on the DNR's web site. Releasing snakeheads anywhere is irresponsible for anyone who wants to promote fishing.
I wonder, is it DNR, or some western shore knucklehead that brought those things here? When you chart the spread of these things, is just impossible that they got here on their own in this period of time.
10:08 Wow what a bunch of idiots. These fish a very distructive to any natural habitate they get into. They eat every variey of fish and once they are there good luck getting rid of them.
11:18-I hear someone knocking at my door now.You don't suppose that for once in your life you're actually right about something do you? Oh crap, they're using the battering ram!!

ReplyDelete10:08 You will be tracked, located and questioned. Your friends are idiots and should have their fishing rights revoked for life.

ReplyDeleteThe best way to get rid of an invasive species, is to find out it tastes good!

ReplyDeleteAre these the species that can walk across land?
ReplyDelete7:12 PM yes!!
ReplyDeleteScientists feared that snakeheads - which can "walk" on land - could spread from one body of water to the next, covering large distances on land.
