Common Core Teacher Takes Nearly a Minute to Solve 9+6=15

  2. And you wonder why the USA is way below the Europeans and Asians when it comes to Math and Science...

    My kids will not be learning this way--they go to Catholic School and learn reading writing and arithmetic like it was supposed to be taught... not by Government liberals, atheists, multi-cultural garbage

  5. No child left behind got so twisted by liberal philosophy it turned out something like this:
    Liberal teachers stage a footrace for their 4th grade classes. 150 students run... soon, many students fall behind because their legs get sore and they just don't want to run anymore and they start walking, so the teachers decide to encourage them by going to the competitive front runners and asking them to slow down
    to a jog so the others can catch up which never works, so eventually the teachers ask the achievers to stop racing for a few minutes so the self esteem of the slackers is not harmed...
    Meanwhile the achieving front runners are not in the race anymore, the clock still running the race going on but no one will finish.
    And they call that progressive!

  7. You can't use '1+1+1...' because those who run out of fingers at 10 would feel 'uncomfortable' in front of those who can do this in there head! The further dumbing down of the once great and sought after American educatiion!

  10. So, Common Core Teachers, if I see 6 as 2X3(instead of 1+5) does that mean the answer is 14????
    C'mon, let's get back to the way math really is.

  11. I already do this in my head in about 1.6 seconds, and 4+5 is two fives minus one, bang! half a second, in my head! My big brother told me these "tricks"back in 1964.

    Great system for simple problems like this.

    The problem with common core seems to reveal itself with more complicated word problems, such as quantitative and geometric problems.

  12. The comment about holding back the fastest so the slowest, least able and least interested have great self-esteem is the best remark I've read in a long time. It could not be more accurate.
