  1. Look at all those fires. Not hardly!

  2. It costs the Salisbury taxpayers over $8,000,000 a year for paid firemen and their benefits. Then their personal use of city vehicles and gasoline, washing their own vehicles at work using city water, using washing and waxing materials also paid for by city taxpayers. This goes on and they thumb their noses at the taxpayers. Let the peasants eat cake.

  3. Based on my experience prior to retirement from a large Fairfax County, VA Fire Department the staffing and budget figures I have seen for the SFD are out of control and the waste is borderline criminal. I actually considered living in Wicomico County/City of Salisbury, but after reviewing the local government, it's issues and finances it seemed cheaper back in Fairfax County! I choose Worcester County and I am pleased with my choice. Citizens of Wicomico/Salisbury you have some major financial hurdles coming and I fear their is no way the taxpayers can overcome them!

  4. 3:13 - I see the troll had nothing better to do than insult someone who attempts to educate some 8th grade born here.
I know how you uneducated dolts hate when an intelligent comment is made.
Heaven forbid anyone bother to tell you the truth about your ghetto.
Wake up jerk, sadly people like you are a large part of the problem.

Don't forget the 5 paid assistant paid fire chiefs that get to come and go as they please while on duty and they get to ride in a SUV the whole time. On Holidays like Christmas they come in and switch shifts with the off going assistant chief then head home and spend Christmas with their loved ones until there is a reported structure fire. According to the list above they will be spending the entire 24 hour shift with their family. Some get to even eat and sleep at home. Must be nice.

The bottom line is these assistant chiefs aren't needed so they can get rid of the 12 free grant money firemen and put these guys back on the fire trucks. Part of that problem solved. Is Tull or Rick Hoppes really needed? No. Don't forget about those 3 brand new SUV's they just bought. Don't forget the training officer, the inspections officer, the maintenance officer, the supply officer and the EMS officer and the admin assistant chief. They are so busy playing solitaire on the computer all day long they forget they don't know what it would be like to have a real job. Guess where the 15 paid firemen on duty as we speak are? Snuggled up in their cozy beds because they are not on calls right now. Count all those people up and you and you easily have your 12 free grant people covered. My, that didn't take long for me to handle that problem. Maybe I should be the fire chief or the City Administrator or even the Mayor.

  7. Always amused to see the daily rants here. People with no experience in Emergency Services or first hand knowledge of the department which they comment on. Always looking to chop and cut personnel and services but the first to complain when the units don't arrive quick enough for you. Not to mention that there are only 3 firefighters on the truck when you Mega Mansion is burning because you forgot the food on the stove. You think it can all be handled by Volunteers ? Nice thinking there Skippy. Volunteering is at an all time low across the country. If you had first hand knowledge or a scanner you would know Salisbury and Wicomico Co. is struggling bad. Volunteers want nothing to do with an ambulance because of all the crap that goes with it. That's why most of this regions EMS has career staffing. If the grant for the 12 firefighters doesn't come through Salisbury FD will go forward. Some Volunteers will show up sometime. If they don't the Assistant Chiefs you want to get rid of will call for help from neighboring companies that will show up. The truth of the matter is Joe Albero or his readers run the fire department. There is a Chief,Deputy Chief, the 60 plus paid firefighters you hate, some volunteers and those Assistant Chiefs that you want to get rid of. The City charter states they will be there and the insurance underwriters ISO certainly likes them there. The fire department will go forward because it is run by the City and not Joe Albero.

  8. Anon 246 Now thats some funny stuff there. Fairfax Co. FD. The highest paid FD around with the least amount of calls in the Metro area. The same group that saddles up and goes all over the world on the taxpayers dime to play USAR Charlie. New fire trucks every 5 to 7 years and the fattest retirement plan known to the firefighting world. Do us a favor and keep your opinions to yourself. You have no business commenting with that background.

  9. Allow me to interject my observations and facts. The three Volunteer memberships currently have no Assistant Chiefs and have not in some time. The Career Assistant Chiefs have National certifications and are appointed by the Chief after passing both written and oral examinations for the position. It would be ludicrous to eliminate a position of this stature and credibility in the fire departments structure. It would beg the question of who would run the business of Emergency Services in Salisbury ? To my knowledge these men handle emergencies of every sort day in and day out with positive results. Your opinions appear to be short sighted and baseless. Who do you propose to lead if these men are gone ? An strong question to ponder.

  10. 12:08 There is another whole department called the department of emergency management. Take your BS elsewhere!

  11. My BS is back and educated which you obviously are not. Emergency Management handles planning of resources for hurricanes, storms, flooding and other natural disasters. The Fire Department handles the emergency in the streets and protects the citizens lives and property. WEMA is your local agency. There you have it and theres no charge for my accurate BS. I have a degree that ends in BS thank you. Get yourself some common sense.

  12. Anon 2:16 Am I to understand you believe the emergency management department should replace the Assistant Chiefs and handle Salisbury's emergencies ? I want to be sure I completely understand your statement.
