Congressman Stockman introduces bill to grant taxpayers same excuse as IRS

WASHINGTON,  Can’t do your taxes because the dog ate your hard drive? No problem! According to a press release from Congressman Steve Stockman (R- Texas), taxpayers who do not produce documents for the Internal Revenue Service will be able to offer a variety of dubious excuses under new legislation he introduced a week after the IRS offered an incredibly dubious excuse for its failure to turn documents over to House investigators.

“The United States was founded on the belief government is subservient and accountable to the people. Taxpayers shouldn’t be expected to follow laws the Obama administration refuses to follow themselves,” said Stockman. “Taxpayers should be allowed to offer the same flimsy, obviously made-up excuses the Obama administration uses.”

Under Stockman’s bill, “The Dog Ate My Tax Receipts Act,” taxpayers who do not provide documents requested by the IRS can claim one of the following reasons:

1. The dog ate my tax receipts
2. Convenient, unexplained, miscellaneous computer malfunction
3. Traded documents for five terrorists
4. Burned for warmth while lost in the Yukon
5. Left on table in Hillary’s Book Room
6. Received water damage in the trunk of Ted Kennedy’s car
7. Forgot in gun case sold to Mexican drug lords
8. Forced to recycle by municipal Green Czar
9. Was short on toilet paper while camping
10. At this point, what difference does it make?

  2. This is the BS that really pisses me off. 12:58, you can believe in a bill like this. Really. I sure hope you don't vote. The Establishment GOP playing games instead of taking action. IRS people need to go to prison for obstruction, fraud, and flat out lying to Congress under oath. Where is accountability? Our country is going down in flames and Establishment GOP Congressmen (who are being paid with our tax dollars) are playing BS games... instead of making the chairman bring charges against those who have lied.

  3. Glad to see Congress wasting time on such nonsense. No wonder Congress approval rating is at record low. Would be nice to see Congress do something actually helpful for the American people.

  4. If the IRS leads by example, all of these should work.

  5. They might as well vote on this. Heaven knows that they aren't doing anything else.

  6. 2:41 Wrong. In Maryland the Democrats still can't decide on an official "State Sandwich".

  7. Thank you 1:08 and 1:11. Congress (either party) needs to stop with the games and act like the responsible leaders they should be. Vote these idiots out!

  8. Hey 1:08, nice to see how outraged you are about the GOP instead of the administration that harbors this activity. Can't vote out Barry because the IRS may target you next, Duh! The congressman is making a point that most Americans should be outraged, however morons like you are not smart enough to see that! Instead you are outraged at him for bringing it up. So stupid!

  9. No 5:32. I'm outraged that a US congressman would waste everyone's time with this drivel solely to pander to the likes of you who seem to find it useful to stoke your own anger. I actually feel sorry for you having to live with all this pain the IRS has caused you. Oh yeah. I almost forgot to call you a stupid moron.

  10. 639, I think in this case the Congress man is forced into writing a blatant statement in order to call to public attention the blatant lies and destruction of real evidence perpetrated by an agency that forbids the same for you and me.

It is so pertinent, it is required to be addressed.

Would you purposefully toss out your last seven years of paper tax records?
