Salisbury Council To Help Fund Fireworks

SALISBURY – The City Council agreed this week to help fund fireworks for the Red, White and Boom 4th of July celebration this year while encouraging local benefiting businesses to start making contributions.

An ordinance in its final reading approached the City Council on Monday evening to amend Fiscal Year 2014 General Fund to appropriate $10,000 for a contribution to support the 2014 Red, White and Boom fireworks display on 4th of July.

The ordinance states, “a committee of citizens has organized to stage a fireworks display to celebrate the Nation’s Independence Day this year for the third year in a row, and a number of businesses, institutions and individuals are supporting this event through both cash and in-kind contributions. It is important that the City join with the other supporters in the community and to express their appreciation for the efforts of these citizens to stage this celebration.”

  1. It's really to support Mike Dunn running for mayor. Why do you think he moved back into Salisbury after turning tail and running just outside the city limits? Why do you think he's joining non-profit boards?

  2. 9:16, Let's say you are correct and I do believe you are, how many of you actually believe Mike Dunn has a chance of being elected?

  3. Dunn won't run for mayor. He may run for Council to take over Jake Day's seat when Day runs for mayor.

  6. I am sick and tired of the mayor and council wasting my hard earned tax dollars on things that donors can and should provide. My taxes and fees keep going up in the city and the county and I can no longer afford to live here.

Shanie says people are going to come here and rent hotel rooms just to see these stupid fireworks when their own home towns will be providing fire works. We have fire works at the Shorebirds, Ocean City, Chincoteague, Hebron, etc. and people are going to rent a hotel room in Salisbury? That ghetto queen is as stupid as a rock.

  7. Too many people have seen what Dunn can, or I should say can't do. He's not a people person and has no people skills, he's good at lining his pockets on the backs of taxpayers. How's that old mall working out? How much more money do city taxpayers need to fund to get the WWTP where it should be, all of Dunn's stunts were and remain epic failures.

Yeah Right! But then again Jim won re-election and Jake Day got elected. I would be surprised they really did win. Can't wait for paper ballots.
