Tomorrow's County Council Meeting LOADED With Goodies

Rather than doing like the Daily Times and reporting what happened AFTER the meeting has ended and publishing it the following day, or so, I'll give you the opportunity to know what's about to happen.

Wicomico County has been represented by PKS, (Pig, Krahl & Stern) Auditing Firm for YEARS. I'm talking about well past the LANDFILL theft/fiasco. Yes, they are still on board.

This company will come up for yet another contract with the County at tomorrow's meeting. NOW you'll see just what kind of representatives you have on the County Council because after ALL of the questionable problems at the Landfill and the Board of Education, someone was asleep at the wheel and it took a State Auditor to find very serious issues with how funds were handled.

The first item on the agenda will be Councilwoman Stevie Prettyman's request to bring the raises of the Orphan Judges and Sheriff Lewis' raise. I'm not sure if the Council and Executive raises will be brought up as well. As I had stated in a comment the other day, I personally know Prettyman is well aware of the fact that Sheriff Lewis spends quite a bit of time away from the Sheriff's Department and has had a problem with that. Now, all of a sudden, he is worthy of a massive pay increase?

John Fredericksen will also be present tomorrow morning in an attempt to defend MANY of the issues brought to our attention through the state Audit.

The meeting starts at 10:00 AM and you have now been forewarned. If you truly want to make a difference, be there and voice your concerns. In the very least, be there to hear what each group has to say. I have the feeling the general public is finally going to see what this Council is made of and I don't think you are going to be very happy.

CORRECTION/UPDATE: PKS does NOT audit the Board of Education. Our apologies for stating they do.

  1. PKS also does the Liquor Dispensary audit. What is going on here with PKS?

  2. 1:30, Thank You. I did not know that. Hmmmmm!

  3. I wish people would just look at the departments in the county! Look at Public Works and the organizational chart! Private business would never survive with this many positions! Government nation wide is out of control! Assistant to the Assistant to the Super! Roads Division, that division this division!

  4. The audit completed by PKS is very different from the audit prepared by the office of legislative audits. The audit completed by PKS is seeking to determine if the financial statements prepared by WCBE fairly represent WCBE financial condition and results whereas the Financial Management Practices Audit attempts to find operational inconsistencies with best management practices or state laws. If PKS did not previously report any of the findings by the office of legislative Audits it is not in any way a poor reflection of PKS.

  5. Pks audits the zoo too

  6. Rommel Twilley used to audit the dispensaries. Whole different liquor board now, Ewalt, not sure if Alessi is still in there.

  7. 1:55 PM - who are you trying to kid? Sure it's a poor reflection. When you hire someone to do something, and they only report half of what they know, is that acceptable to you? Not to me, I want to know it all, the good, the bad and the ugly.

  8. why don't they hold these meetings when the working man can attend. total bs!

  9. The audit should be put out for bids, even if they is not required for "professional services" and some review for quality assurance -- it's a 3 year contract and PKS has really missed some huge matters that need immediate correction at the B of E. Also, the Board and the County should not have the same auditor.

  10. Joe-

By any chance does Dr. Freddy use PKS for his personal taxes, and what about the members of the Board of Ed. and the County Council, or Rick Pollitt and Strasberg?

  11. Dr. Freddy's defense of the Board's financial scams is at 1PM.

Try to be there to give the raspberry when he says that it's all OK because the Board says so.

  12. Why are these meetings when us "working men" are at work and can not comment on these issues.

  13. Hope the Council asks why one WCBOE was worth being paid $10,000 above what should have been paid. A huge number of people work for the school system so how was one picked for a huge "favor"?

  14. Joe please get your stories correct. I am John Stern of PKS
and we do not represent the Board Of education. It appears appropriate to retract you statements and an apology is in order.

Hey Dumb Dumb! The council meets at night every other meeting. Obviously you haven't been to those because you expressed your ignorance. Don't feel bad there are hardly anyone that attends the meetings. GA and Julie Brewington whined so much to get meetings at night and they have never been back. Heck, GA isn't even living around here now.

I think all the meetings should be held during the day because no one attends the night meetings anywhere. It costs money to hold the meeting at night to heat or cool the building and pay the employees overtime to be there. If you want to whine about something whine about that. What a waste of tax dollars.

  17. No one from the public will be there and it has noting to do with it being during the day. If it was at night they wouldn't be there either.

  18. Joe -

Please post who does the Bd. of Ed's audits -- their website does not seem to have the latest or any other audit or mention who they use to check on money.

Do they even do an audit there?

  19. Blame that pay raise BS on Matt Holloway for putting it back on the agenda -- and of course Rick Pollitt, who tells him what to do.

  20. The Media Whore Lewis needs a raise?? BS, he already gets paid for his camera appearances and his other guest performances at children's birthday parties and other events that need a clown!

  21. Stevie and Matt Holloway are doing a mutual back scratch -- after he votes for the pay raises she will vote for the tier map he needs in order to get the state money for a conservation easement on his farm.

Schaeffer was right on when he called the Eastern Shore of Maryland a really big s____house.

  22. 3:14 must be the King he loves day meetings! He loves to call people names who dissents from his County intelligence!

  23. HEY RICK THATS HOW YOU ADMIT A MISTAKE. NEVER TO OLD I FESS UP.

  24. Audits are easy. Add the money up and, if $27,000 is missing, there may be a thief. Purchase $27,000 worth of gift cards and the money is accounted for. What could be easier?

  25. "Schaeffer was right on when he called the Eastern Shore of Maryland a really big s____house."

William Donald did not speak out of ignorance. He had a mobile home for years in Castaways Campground W of OC. He was certainly more knowledgeable than O'Malley relative to what goes down on the Shore. The challenge of course in how to define s___house. Is it small timers like Conway and Mathais or even smaller timers with the likes of Salisbury politics?

  26. Mike Lewis gets his retirement from the State of Maryland, his pay for being a part-time sheriff and also honorariums for speaking at police symposiums on automotive compartments and drug trafficking via interstates. The later of the three probably adds up to more than his sheriff's salary. A raise? Come on give me a break!
