Mars To Close Baltimore Distribution Center

BALTIMORE - As many as 70 workers are expected to lose their jobs after locally-owned and operated Mars Supermarkets confirmed its plans to close its distribution center.

Chris D'Anna, chairman and CEO of Mars, said the company decided to close the center, located at 1401 Edison Highway in Baltimore, due to “ever-increasing competition in the grocery business and to remain competitive with large regional and national chains.”

D’Anna said Mars will be outsourcing its grocery supply and distribution to Bozzuto's, Inc. According to the company’s website, Mars employs just less than 1,700 people and their 300,000 square foot distribution center has supplied their stores with dry groceries, meats, deli/dairy, frozen goods and produce.
