NFL Commissioner Confident Redskins Owner Weighing Name Debate

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he believes Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is "way down the road" in consideration of whether the team should change its nickname.

Goodell got a question Sunday about the latest debate over the name during a question-and-answer session with Dallas season ticket-holders before the Cowboys' game against the Redskins.

The commissioner repeated what he said during the owners' meetings last week - that he grew up in Washington and considered everything about the name to be something that honored the tradition of Native Americans.

  1. Just change the name already. It's an offensive slur, maybe not intentional but so what. Needs to be changed.

  2. Just another act of terrorism. SOMEBODY who is pushing this movement is making a POT full of money out of it and the suckers (demonstrators) are falling in line because they have nothing else to do OR are being paid to do this. Bet most of them are on "Social Assistance".

  5. Look out Baltimore. The save the blackbirds movement will be next or will it be Miami with the save the Dolphins movement. Where does all this end.......It gets silly after awhile.

  6. So are you comparing an entire race of people with birds and fish 3:03? Think you've made the point for changing the name.

  7. I agree with Anon 2:07. Also, if you don't like the name, don't go to the games!

  8. "If it offends one person them the name should be changed"---
How about the tens of thousands or hundreds of thousand it will offend if the name IS changed? The fact that our muslim president said it should be changed is reason enough NOT to change it!

  9. Silliness, start to finish.

None of the team or school mascots I have seen that reference Indians have been or were disrespectful. They were all chosen to honor qualities that reflected well upon the goals of the school or team.

Schools that have knuckled under to this PC parade should be ashamed; the Indians they had been named for would not have relinquished their identity so lightly.

But in the interest of conciliation I offer a suggestion to the owner and the commish (squish)that should ease the friction.

Going forward they can be the Foreskins since most of the clamor is coming from d*cks. That way all fans can still root for their Skins.

Problem solved. Pass the peace pipe!

  11. What's offensive is all the insecure people who get offended at the drop of a hat.
Another example of poor parenting. A good parent teaches and instills in their children the self confidence that it takes so they are above being offended.
