ReplyDeleteThe things people say about him being a bully and an arrogant turd are right. But there is no way that kid should be spending 8 years in prison. I think half of that would be appropriate. He fully deserves prison time. Many people do far worse things and get much less time.

ReplyDeleteDon't blame the State's attorney. He is doing the job he was elected to do. This kid has been out of control for a long time and his parents were accepting of his behavior. He crossed the line with these actions. I am sad for everyone involved but there are consequences to our actions and unfortunately these actions were that of a felon. Certainly the courts couldn't turn their heads and accept this behavior and I for one want them to make our community a safer place.
ReplyDeleteThe family and friends had the opportunity to achieve a lower sentence by their presentation in court. Obviously the Judge felt that this kid needed to be sentenced to prison. I feel for the parents. I had children also and don't know how I could go on but they aren't faultless with this situation. Tough love is difficult but is necessary in raising our children.
ReplyDeleteIt appears this was a plea. Why did the family accept this plea if they felt the punishment was too stiff. It also appears there could have been a much longer sentence with the charges that were nolle pros. It is a sad situation.
ReplyDeleteThe judge had the power to reduce the recommended sentence but she refused. Seriously how is that a states attorney problem?

ReplyDeletethis wasn't the only thing on his record. he had been going against the law for quite awhile. he was given warning after warning to no avail. the sentence is fair.
ReplyDeleteUnless he accomplishes the behavior modification that is needed in his case, he will never be successful no matter how much is given to him. An example of all that has been given him all of his life and look how he became a convicted felon. Tragic.
ReplyDeleteOne very important part that has been left out of this discussion is that there are two sons. But one was bailed out and allowed to go on with life as if he had done nothing wrong and the other has remained in jail and is still awaiting sentencing. So it appears these parents tried to save one and threw the other one to the wolves. Ross will forever be damaged by this kind of treatment. Sick.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe did you consider that my brother had a $500k bond and I had no where near that. And I bailed out and finished the 11th grade and my brother wasn’t doing anything at the time. It’s not sick, you are just stupid. I am Gavin. I am not anonymous.

ReplyDeleteImpossible. That's a very small business barely able to keep one person "confortable" much less several. Now if the parents were to suddenly drop dead and leave zero bills behind then maybe but otherwise what you state isn't going to ever happen.
12:05 maybe but only if the Judge doesn't put a minimum on the sentence which this Judge did. She was speaking loud and clear.

12:38, I couldn't agree more. Her statements that she has lost faith in the justice system is ludicrous. That is why her sons are where they are this minute. She has loved them to the point that she had to defend their actions. I have kids and know first hand the love that a parent feels but we can't be just friends to our children we have to be a guiding force. Many times it hurts us more than them but that is reality. I pray that these guys come out of prison with more appreciation for life than ever before.

I am the mother of a teenage son and if he would have done something like this, I would not be crying like Mommy Stephens. The parents have totally spoiled them, especially Gavin to think he deserves only the best and nothing but the best! But she (they) forget to tell their sons if they "do a crime, they do the time". Sorry Renee, you need to stop crying the blues and making more excuses like you have the past 18 years with Gavin.

Defending and making excuses instead of confronting reality is a sign that a mother loves herself more than a child and does this to save her own face and to further propagate the myth of a perfect family so she feels good.
ReplyDeleteIt is often found that people who do this are living in a fake world. They tend to want to impress others whether it be with a perfect family and also often attempt to appear more wealthy they are really are.
This myth is a lot of the times what causes the child to become mixed up because of the dream world that is their world.
That is probably 2 days not years. His parents bailed him out almost immediately. He was sentenced to 15 years with 7 years suspended and a minimum of 8 years serve time. He can go before the parole board in 4 years by law. Doesn't mean he will be paroled and it is dependent on what kind of prisoner he has been. This is my interpretation of the judicial page.

ReplyDeleteSo let me get this straight, he had 34 charges against him and all but 1 were dropped and the mother thinks her little angel got screwed over? LMAO!!! They could have locked him up and thrown away the key if they'd found him guilty of all those crimes.

He will be required to serve 50% as it is a crime of violence.
Why should dozens of charges be ignored? Committing lots of crimes is not the same as committing one crime.
ReplyDeleteTo many people who knew him and the family the whole thing isn't a shock...... Many people tried to warm the parents to no avail. He deserves exactly what he got. He needs to be knocked down many pegs to the level of the rest of us! The parents are also as ignorant as it gets, their heads stuck in the sand. My only sympathies got to the people he bullied.robbed, ect. They should have thrown away the key......

ReplyDeleteTo many people and those scouts truly deserving of eagle rank, it is very important. There are twelve characteristics that define an eagle. If a young man follows those characteristics, he will stay on the right path.
ReplyDeleteThere was another young male from Hebron that got in trouble a couple years back whose mother turn the kid into the police. He is too in prison but I don't remember that family condemning the judicial system for a misjustice. They accepted that their kid screwed up. I'm sure it is hell for them also to know that their 18 year old was sent to prison but they handled it so differently and consequently had support from the community. BTW, that family was also from the right set of the tracks. The Stephens family needs to get over themselves and hope and pray that Gavin's experience will help turn his life around.
ReplyDeleteTHE KID ACCEPTED THE PLEA DEAL- how can the parents say it is a miscarriage of justice or blame law enforcement or State's Attorney. Clearly they must have been concerned he would have gotten FAR WORSE if it had gone to trial. The parents - especially the mother - needs counseling as she is delusional!! YOUR SON AGREED TO THE PLEA!!!

ReplyDeleteJoe read your post May 2 on this kid. Someone wrote in that he did not deserve his Eagle Scout award...SBYNEWS was first on this guys case! Weeks before his arrest, what did that poster know?
ReplyDeleteNo scout troop would back him for his Eagle Scout award. The decision was up to the Delmarva Council. His parents bugged the council enough that they relented. By his actions before this conviction he is no Eagle Scout. He didn't have the character and didn't live up to the oath and law. The Delmarva Council devalued the rank of Eagle when he was given this award.
ReplyDeleteif that is the case with the Eagle Scout Award then it should be taken from him. Interesting that no troop would support him but Gary Mackes did per his letter read in court.
ReplyDeleteFrom having a family member in Scouts, the Eagle Scout award seems to be more of a "who's who's" award around here. In my opinion, the Delmarva Council should take back Gavin's Eagle Scout award but I am sure that will never happen, especially if Mommy and Daddy have any say!

ReplyDeleteI wasn't there either but I have heard he was there for Gavin's sentencing but there is a question about when Ross pleaded guilty to 3 felonies. I heard that the mom and Gavin were in attendance but not the dad. I'm sure there is a reason though.

ReplyDeleteI suppose Renee reads this blog. She had posted photos of her Funday Sunday with Brad Gillis, Chris Eccleston, John McClellan and Chris Hayes. But the photos have been taken down now. You can play act Renee but the people really know why the boys have turned out the way they did.
ReplyDeleteI did think it to be a little strange to be posting "Sunday Funday" pictures so soon when both of her sons are sitting in jail (One in Jessup I believe). Not exactly a fun day in my opinion. Different strokes for different folks!
ReplyDeleteWith restraint I have not posted on the horrible situation this family found themselves in but after seeing the photos of "funday sunday" I could not believe the mom was partying it up while her 18 year old was in prison for less than 1 week. I am a mother and I can't imagine what I would be going through day and night wondering if my son was safe. And with the other son's pending sentencing in the future, I would be attempting to make contacts with anyone possible so that both of my kids wouldn't go to the pen. But instead, they have a pool party and the young "whose who" in Salisbury participates. WTH is wrong with these people. And the statement she posted, "sometimes men need just to be boys", how inappropriate. This woman needs help. It is no damn wonder these kids are where they are. Sick and very, very sad.
ReplyDeleteHey guys, guess what? The week after these boys were arrested for armed robbery, these parents were in Ocean City partying at PRMC's big event. Partying then and now and all the time in between. They are partying and their kids are in jail and prison.
