O'Malley Meets With Family Of Ethan Saylor

Patti Saylor said one thing gave her the courage she needed to stand before a gaggle of reporters at the Maryland State House Thursday morning to talk about the death of her son.

“The love I have for Ethan, what I owe him, is what gives me the strength to be here today,” she said, before her family and supporters entered the statehouse to deliver 340,000 signatures to Gov. Martin O'Malley.

The signatures were gathered on a Change.org petition started by Emma Saylor, Ethan's younger sister. The petition asks for the governor to begin an independent investigation into Ethan Saylor's death and also to implement training protocols for first responders who interact with developmentally disabled people.

  1. It was already proven that this individual with down syndrome was a violent person. He shouldn't have been out in public and if the mother had the love she said why wasn't she at the movies with him? More liberal cop haters.

  2. So it was the cops fault his handlers screwed up?

  3. The question also is why was a Down Syndrome man already prone to agitation and outbursts even was allowed to see such a violent movie?

  4. I don't care what they say 12:23, those folks can be extremely violent unprovoked. What might appear to be a hug might turn into a stranglehold. True story!

  5. People like this are wearing out their welcome. Attempting to circumvent laws and procedures to ease one's own guilt or to fulfill a compelling need for grandstanding is getting old. Also brings to mind the parents of Trayvon Martin.
In this particular incident a Grand Jury heard testimony and chose to not indict. The burden is so low for a recommendation to indict that there obviously wasn't even a hint of wrongdoing.

  6. I have nothing but empathy for the disabled but his 18 yr old "handler" clearly was unable to control him or properly supervise him.If he was known to have angry, cursing outbursts, why was a teenager entrusted to his care?
