Md. Insurance Cheaper Than Expected

WASHINGTON - The rates for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act have been set in Maryland -- and they'll be lower than expected.

Like many of the other states that have announced rate plans, Maryland's insurance will cost a third lower than expected when people get a chance to sign-up between October and March. Changes to personal insurance individuals get through work aren't affected.

For example, a healthy 21-year-old nonsmoker could pay as little as $93.

  2. As this continues to work it is only a matter of time before the Republicans claim Obamacare was all their idea.

  3. Expected by whom? It's still going to increase dramatically. Not quite a lie by the Insurance Commissioner, but certainly not the whole truth, either.

  7. 2:04...actually Obamacare was a republican idea although republicans don't want the credit for it anymore. As was brought up repeatedly in the last campaign, most of Obamacare was modeled after Mitt Romneys healthcare plan that he successfully implemented in Massachusetts when he was governor. Funny how the world goes round.

  8. The biggest fear for Republicans is that it will work. Should we go back to what we had: max caps, kids off at 21, preexisting conditions no coverage?

  9. My private, individual "subsidized" plan for a mid 50's generally healthy female is just short of $500.00 a month. Yet, if I drop it, I'll be penalized on my tax return. Go figure.
