Paula Deen’s Empire Continues To Crumble As Target Phases Out Her Products

It’s been a week of cutting ties and ending business partnerships for Paula Deen’s formerly sprawling empire. The Southern chef has waved adios to deals with the Food Network, Smithfield Foods, Caesars Entertainment, Walmart, Home Depot and now, after it had been “evaluating the situation,” Target is the latest company to put let the axe fall.

Target said Thursday that it’ll be phasing out its Deen-branded cookware (side note: How did she sell cookware everywhere and yet JCPenney and Macy’s fight over Martha Stewart like two cats after a mouse?), and after that’s gone, it’s gone.

“Once the merchandise is sold out, we will not be replenishing inventory,” said a Target spokeswoman.

  1. The only thing that's crumbling are the lives of those who depend on Deen for their livelihood. Deen and family are set for life and not a penny of any settlement money paid will come out of her pocket. In the past few days she has picked up another couple of million in book sales.

  2. Just wondering if any of these sponsors listen to the so called "music" where the N word is repeatedly said/sung....among other words which are too terrible to mention. Nobody says anything about those public figures. Sounds like a double standard to me.

  3. I think that I, along with many others I know, will quit shopping at the places which are cutting ties with her. Let them know what most Americans think of this stupid fiasco.

  4. Sucks to be her, but well deserved karma.

  5. 1035 bigger karma on the way for the likes of Susan Rice, Eric Holder, Hilary Clinton for lying. At least Paula didn't lie under oath.

  6. 10:35 Well deserved karma???? Are you kidding? I can't even begin to repeat the words these black rappers say in their music but to see Matt Lauer give Paula a lecture on using the N word 20 years ago was disgusting.

Maybe I should use some of those offensive words to you and Matt. Never mind - I have too much class.

    And so does Paula.

  7. Her nostalgia for a time when blacks waited on their white superiors shows that she still doesn't get it.

    1. And today whites wait on blacks in restaurants, maybe you don't get it 11:12am. It's called "having a job", "making money" and the word "superior" was your choice 11:12am. Everyone involved may think differently then you? I know I do! The politically correct history changers want to remove the vocabulary that was present during that time and instead sugar coat the words and rearrange the story to suit their perfect person, possibly their hidden agenda. She said nothing wrong in her truthful acknowledgement of her past.

  8. 1026, another uninformed opinion. People go after this "music" all the time. Bill Oreilly had a mighty high profile media battle with rapper ludicrous that cost Luda sponsors. Rick Ross and Lil Wayne both lost airplay due to lyrics they had on a recent single. And I can remember going all the way back to the 90's the NAACP making a big demonstration of targeting the lyrics, messaging, and overall content of this "music".

But hey, this IS a free country. Feel free to stick to whatever convenient truth you choose. I guess its nice up there in fantasy land.

  9. there have been people who have done worse and not been crucified like this. its just plain stupid. ted kennedy and chapaquiddik. anyone remember that.this whole story is just something to divert your attention off of the issues with the government right now. open your eyes people. look at the ma behind the curtain..............

  10. 11:12 You can spin it all you want but you're comparing apples to onions. Now if Walmart for example stopped selling this offensive low class ghetto music then you would have a point.

  11. She currently has the best selling cookbook in the world.

  12. Anybody that's says they never said the n word is a liar.

  13. You know.....the blacks want to claim racist remarks all the time but it is this kind of craziness that cause other races to dislike you. Why don't you act better and not create problems for yourselves? I don't dislike blacks, jews, hispanics, whites or any other race. I dislike poor behaviors regardless of the color. It does seem however... at least for right now there are too many incidents of black vs white (Zimmerman/Martin, Paula and her racist remark ) etc etc. Can't we stop the hatred and move on acting like decent people instead of stirring crap up all the time!!!

  14. Hypocrisy at play. She said something long ago that she regrets. It was apparently only shared with her spouse, and was in reaction to being threatened with a gun when she was a customer during a bank robbery.

I'm gonna keep on breathing while waiting for these sanctimonious retailers to stop stocking and selling DVDs, CDs and video games that employ similar disrespectful language against any group.

I've seen her show on occasion and it's OK but not something I plan my life around.

She has taken the high road and will eventually be vindicated.

    Just sayin'

  15. Meanwhile, it is somehow "ok" for a democrat politician to call a supreme court justice an Uncle Tom. How come all you preachy hypocrites aren't jumping that jackass? Double-standard much?

  16. 1129, walmart WOULD stop selling it if enough consumers kicked up a fuss. Thats capitalism. You think these companies really care about what Paula said, or do you think they are more worried about their own brand + being on the hook to purchase PD products that might not sell? And it is exactly the same thing. The Oreilly fuss; yeah, it was Pepsi Co. that dropped its sponsorship. Not exactly a mom and pop store. Its funny you guys scream about free market capitalism, then seem absolutely inept at understanding how the game works.

  17. "It was apparently only shared with her spouse"

Let me guess, you really haven't read the details on this story.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I've said the "N" word before and after reading again today about these 10 other companies that dropped her I'll probably say it again tonight. It's okay that some ignorant looking b*tch gets on the stand and talks about crazy white crackers and lies while she is up there talking about all the scuffling sounds she heard that sounded like "wet grass." Like she knows what the hell wet grass sounds like. Mean while there is more black mob violence at the Lauder something mall when 200 black youth converge on the place because as one excited black man says, "if you have a beef with anyone come to the mall, that is what was on facebook." Meanwhile our Half-Black president who only identifies himself as Black is off spending 10 million dollars that we don't have so he and the rest of his black family can go check out Africa. How much more would it cost us to have them stay. Daggone if I don't believe we could come up with it. I am soooo
sick of this BS with the racist stuff. It is only racist if a white person says it. Black people can say whatever, do whatever and that is all well and good.

Right now I am feeling pretty freaking violent my damn self and they don't really want to---never mind, I won't finish that thought. Christ, I would probably never work again. Oh well, so much for one less person to support them on their damn welfare rolls. And yes, I am getting more racist every day.

  19. Who cares Zimmerman is going to jail. Martin is dead. And Paula Deen's food made everyone fat. Lets move on.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I know where you are coming from 6:26. Between Deen and Zimmerman I'm fed up.
And you know what-Thank God Obama is referred to as only black. They can have the loser. The freak knew all about the Martin incident even saying it could be his son, but as the CEO of the country hasn't a clue what's going on in the depts under him such as the State, NSA, IRS.

  21. What a load of garbage. They get all upset over the n word? I call bs. Listen to them talk. Listen to their music. They don't show THEMSELVES respect but bitch and complain when someone THEY are racist against uses the SAME WORD they do?

Hogwash. Sorry kiddo's. You have to earn respect. The rate you are going you will never earn a drop.

You can't talk, you can't walk, you can't dress yourselves, you can't respect your women OR YOURSELVES.

Behavior such as those guarantees you will remain in the ghetto's where you currently reside. How do you expect to make it in this world and be prosperous? Selling drugs? Sure, you can get lots of money that way. But that's short lived.

You will either be robbed, robbed and killed, or thrown in prison. Guaranteed.

When are you going to wise up? NOBODY owes you one thing. If you make it, YOU make it. If you fail, YOU fail. Either choice is yours to make. No one else's. You either earn the credit, or take the blame.

NO ONE else. Growing up 101. Try it.

  22. Paula Deen needs to cop a "Hillary" plea. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? THIRTY YEARS AGO? C'mon people. All those NOT guilty... How soon we forget our president, setting (im)moral standard in MY (and your) Oval Office with that beautiful young girl on her knees... fewer years ago than that. Last time I voted, "racism speak" wasn't against the law. She needs to buck up & tell these "critics" where to go. (IMO)
This is not to say anything about right or wrong.

Try anger instead of tears...I would.

Just another smoke screen scandal, (It is her turn) to avoid the REAL ones. They're saying there are no scandals in D.C.

  23. Paula's time has run out.She needs to step aside and let the newcomers take over.Everything and everyone has it's time. That sounds harsh I realize, but it's true.If she had an expiration date it would read 2013.She occupied a slot that was intended for others but she just would not quit.Hence the scandal. She was told "we can do this the hard way or we can do this the easy way".She did not choose wisely.

  24. Target, Walmart and all the rest doing away with Paula's products need to ban all the rap music they sell too. How many times do you hear the N word in your average rap CD...

  25. USA needs to Ban Walmart and Target for a week see what happens to their revenue !!!!!

  26. Obama has done more to promote hate between the white and black race than any other president. The MSM, his faithful lap dogs, are very helpful also. Good case in point everyone of them is still showing photographs of TM when he was 8 or 12. When I first heard of this case by watching the nightly news I was outraged thinking a "white man" (Half white / half Mexican, if he is white so is Obama) killed a poor 8 year old black kid (17 year old thug). The truth is somewhat different as usual. Obama and his MSM are trying to bring on racial warfare in this country to justify Marshall law and the complete removal of our constitutional rights.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Whats the big deal? Nobody would really care but the MSM has got to follow the Obama/liberal agenda and stir up racial strife. GOOD JOB!

  30. How about all of you enraged fans read line for line what she and her brother said. It's not just the n word. It was the systemic mistreatment and other vile behavior. In addition enraged ones...it was a white lady who called Paula and Bubba out. So chew on that. Hate gets you nowhere. There are enough of you people out there that she will never go broke pushing her heart attack enducing "comfort food".

  32. So what Deen should do is sue these places and ask they submit in writiong that every employee including CEO's have never said the N word. Every Chef on the food network be asked the same thing and let the chips fall.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If Paula Deen was any color but white this would have Ben ignored! I'm not of fan BUT how many times have black people called each other a "N"...Shut the front door, you racist riots!
