WASHINGTON - Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer and regular traffic backups at Bay Bridge.
If there's any strategy to beating beach traffic, Washingtonians tend to try timing their Bay Bridge crossing for moments when traffic volume will be lighter. But it doesn't always work out, which begs the question: Should there be a third span to handle traffic?
The Maryland Transportation Authority has opened a two-year, $800,000 study of the Bay Bridge to determine if a new crossing is necessary. The study will look at the growth of traffic to determine future capacity needs, The Baltimore Sun reports, but won't say where such a crossing would be built.

imo, another bridge should be built from near Flag Ponds Nature Park(off Rt 4 headed to Solomons), and the span over to Rt 16. This would clear up the major traffic delays you typically see on both sides of the Bay Bridge. Sure, it'll be pricey, but the area is still growing and it'll be worth it if you look at it long term. An additional bridge is needed now, how bad will traffic be in 20 years?

They can't even complete the dualization of Rt. 404.Give me a break. Who is doing the study Martin's relative?

as far as rentals, theya re built by illegal aliens and owned by people on the western side of the bay
all the tourists are doind is inflating the prices of housing and trashing up the place
Close all the bridges - make them come here by wagon train if they want to come to the beach. That's right, they won't get here and oh how nice that would be.
ReplyDeleteMD is just about broke, please explain to me how we can afford to waste $800,000 for someone to watch traffic crossing the bridge and type a report on it. Why can't the MTA do that? Isn't it part of their job? Why are they getting paid if they are going to farm out a study? Another stupid otaxie giveaway to friends.
ReplyDeleteactually I'm surprised that a limited access highway hasn't been built already from the bay bridge to Ocean city with just exits for Stevensville, Easton, Cambridge, Salisbury, Berlin and dump right into Ocean City. Most of the land needed to build this is farmland right now. could be a toll road and pay for itself. Getting most of this traffic off our local roads! This is a no brainer! but all the money goes to projects on the western shore so the eastern shore is f'd!
