Robbery + Assault + Battery At Pinehurst School SBY

Joe,

I scanned your new articles but didn't see this, pardon me if you posted something and I missed it. The maintenance man at the Pinehurst Elementary School was beaten and robbed by three men last Wednesday night, May 15th. I was walking my German Shepherd up Russell Ave around 9 pm and spotted two young, slender black men walking fast up Russell, away from Cleveland Ave, on the opposite side of the street. I thought they were looking to steal something by their body language. I crossed the street to follow them, and they ran up Pinehurst Ave towards Camden, picked up bicycles they must have stashed, and took off. When I came back to my block of West College, the Sheriff had cordoned it off to search the area with a K9 unit. I told him what I had seen and he told me about the robbery. I don't know if they caught these guys: I only saw two of the three. They put the maintenance man in the hospital. They are some very bad actors and were dressed in dark clothes so as to make a better getaway.

Just wanted to let you know..

  2. Finally!! I have been wondering why this was not mentioned anywhere.. But then again crime is down I guess.

  3. Staff members in schools have been told to leave by 5:30 and to exit the building in pairs. No details were given about what caused this new directive, except I'm told the email to staff said it was due to an unfortunate accident. Surely, the board did not describe this as an accident. I hope someone who knows what the email said will comment.

  4. Well, well! I wonder what kind of comment Mr. Day has about this? This is HIS neighborhood, isn't it? Wonder what he has to say?

  5. So the witness didn't actually see the boys do anything? just wondering.

  6. This is ghastly and scary.

I will pray for this poor man's recovery. I don't know what else to do.

  7. Description of two of the three guys involved was given by maintenance man and matched description given by dog walker, I think.

  8. I do not get the connection between Day and the alleged robbery/assault at Pinehurst. Seems an asinine statement to blame the Council member living in a district where a crime occurs. Is Tim Spies guilty also?

  9. He wasn't a maintenence man. He is a night custodian. He is fine btw. He thanks all for their concern.

    1. I'm sorry for what he has endured. My children go to Pinehurst, and I've not heard a thing about this incident. We got a recorded message saying something about security. I thought it had to do with the Ohio Ave. Our regards and best wishes to a speedy recovery .

  10. I read about this in the DT, and it was on WMDT & WBOC as well. Oh, my bad. No, I didn't, because it wasn't there!
Thanks, local MSM! for bringing us NOTHING!

  13. Well 8:25 here is the correlation. Crime increases in an area of transient population and lower socio-economic people. Day is a full speed ahead on the subsidised housing project and allowing rentals in owner occupied neighborhoods--like Pinehurst. Why even Matt Creamer has a rental property adjacent to the school! Funny how the good old boys just get richer! Tim Spies fought to preserve to few remaining stable owner occupied neighborhoods in the City. Now with Jake Day bought and paid for by SU and Perdue, and Kris Adams buying up homes for rentals wow easy to see that PInehurst, Clairmont and Forest will soon resemble Smith and CHurch Streets. District 2 hope you are happy!!

  14. 7:23 they weren't boys, they were young men, and they looked like they were searching for loot. That's why I followed them. Their guilt was apparent when they started to bolt and grabbed bikes to ride off on. They looked like trouble, and they were beating a hasty retreat around the time the cops were searching with a k9 unit around the grounds. Part of being a grown up means if you hear hoof-beats in the Bronx, you don't guess "Zebra".

  15. 8:25 "alleged"? A janitor was beaten up and robbed. That is a fact. Three thugs did it. Also a fact. Get your head out of your butt.

  16. was the janitor white or black?

  17. The school is dark at night and I walk around it all the time with my dogs. I see the night custodian working around the outside in the dark. The trouble seems to be that there isn't enough money to pay for sheriff and or SPD patrols to cruise by there. These creeps planned this attack so they were not going to be stopped that night by random patrols. But if there were better lighting and more frequent policing it might be a deterrent.

I don't know why the school board hushed this up, and why the sheriff's department didn't do any more than list it as a call for service. It would be a relief to know the thugs were in custody, but no news is bad news I guess.

  18. Delmarvanow had an article today made using the Sheriff's press release, in which it states the janitor wasn't sent to the hospital. Now that is odd, because the Deputy Sheriff who was guarding the k9 perimeter and who took my information about the two who were fleeing the scene, told me he got knocked down and sent to the hospital. Either he was misinformed then or they are lying about it now. Why?
