Governor Bob McDonnell Declares State of Emergency As Winter Storm Impacts Commonwealth
– Northern, Northwestern and Central Regions of Virginia are Hardest Hit –

RICHMOND - Governor Bob McDonnell declared a state of emergency this morning authorizing state agencies to assist local governments in responding to the snow storm currently impacting the Commonwealth.

Over 12 inches of snow already has been reported in several locations along the northern Interstate 81 corridor. Approximately 170,000 customers are currently without power in Virginia, and that number will likely increase as the storm continues to affect Virginia and winds increase.

In declaring a state of emergency, the governor authorizes state agencies to identify and position resources for quick response anywhere they are needed in Virginia. State agencies have been responding to the since last night. Actions taken in Virginia include:

  2. The governor of VA is on the ball. He has good people on committees that actually know what they are doing. The education system is far ahead of MD it isn't funny. I'm not taking anything away from teachers; however it seems all we ever hear are the local teachers touting themselves, while the teachers in VA get the results without all the hype and self-promotion. Something this school board should be doing.
