A Letter To The Editor 3-14-13

WHAT DOES JACOB DAY REALLY DO?

After looking into Mr. Day’s credentials, he seems scary as a potential elected official. He claims to be an architect, but has he ever practiced that trade? The Maryland Architect Board has nobody by that name in its online listing of licensed persons.

The organization that he works for seems to be primarily active in trying to block development on the Eastern Shore. He claims to be a city planner, but what does that entail besides more regulations.

Mr. Day has more academic degrees than my dog has fleas, but has he ever run a business. Why does he want to be on the Salisbury City Council, and should he be?

115 comments:

  1. He's a junior officer in the Maryland Army National Guard, the adjutant to the general, which makes him a weekend appointments secretary and valet. He has no leadership history in the army, and no real accomplishments, or we'd be hearing about them.

His "endorsement" by Jim Perdue was probably at the request of his dad, a senior Perdue executive. Again, no substance, just fluff.

  2. That was my thought when I first viewed his website. All he has done in his life is study and talk about things. Had he not worn his once a month Army National Guard uniform, I'm not sure how he would dress and I would question the validity of some of his claimed academic credentials. And architects are people who tell you what something is supposed to be not the person to actually make it happen. That's what bars and barbershops are for.

  3. The answer should found by looking into who his closest friends and associates are as well as who is backing him. But, and a big but, as we know from our president, things like that seem to no longer matter!

  4. This is one scary wanna be, Refer Chris Parks @Dove Pointe

  5. He seems a nice enough person, but being supported by the likes of Mike Dunn and his slimy cohorts puts him in the old Dream Team category with Dunn, Cathcart, Shields, Comegys and Barrie Tilghman. I never want to see my city go there again.

  6. If he unseats Debbie Campbell, the new president of council, by a 3-2 vote, will be Laura Mitchell. Chew on that for a while.

That is the scariest thing I've seen in quite awhile. The possible effects (and affects when it comes to Laura) would, at best, stymy any possible upgrade in Salisbury.
Going to go over and contribute today on Debbie's site.

  10. Jake Day is a 2LT in The Maryland Army National Guard. He graduated OCS last year. He does not have leadership in the Army yet, but remember Gen. George Patton Started out as a Cavalry 2LT. He drills at the Easton Armory as a Cavalry Officer. He has not yet attended Ranger school, but it's in his future due to the fact that The Army pushes all Combat Arms officers towards the leadership course.

Comments down playing his "weekend service" discredit all of our Guardsmen who have fought in the current wars as well as the ones of the past. (9:56)

Jake has taught at the college, where I know he is respected among students and faculty. He has also led groups leading to the revitalization of Cambridge, Easton, East New Market, as well as a partnership with Pittsburgh. Obviously he is an Urban Planner.

He does have a lot of degrees and advanced certifications, but he is not just "book smart". I've spoken with him regarding issues of the city and he is not the Ireton Cronie he is made out to be.

Like me, Jake cares about this city. He grew up here and wants to stay here. How rare is that? (With his degrees and certifications) He wants to bring business back and revitalize the down town area. If you haven't noticed, not much has happened there.

C'mon instead of throwing anonymous cowardly insults, sit back and root for the 2 opponents who want to make Salisbury better.

  11. So in other words he's a Government sloth?

  12. lmao at 10:34 blasting anonymous commenters who don't like his wannabe canadidate and then telling us how great his candidate is at being a damn near a reincarnation of aleaxander the great. all while doing it anonymously!
Yuuup the salisbury voters are fools! this guy just might win!

  13. 10:34...anonymous, cowardly insults? Where's your name? Most of us are afraid of the well-known retaliatory tactics where you get a visit from NSCC or the like when you disagree with a Moyor's political position. As for cronies, Jake Day endorsed Ireton. Check your facts. He and Laura Mitchell trade notes like a couple of school kids cheating on a test. That is made clear by the Letter to the Editor that the Daily Times refused to publish and was printed here.

The position he holds in the part time national guard is what most of us refer to as a "Gofer." Go for this, go for that. That is exactly the person Jim Ireton needs to be his rubber stamper and Jim is smart enough to see that.

As far as the letter of endorsement from Jim Perdue? I want to say I admire Mr. Perdue for this letter for an employee's son, but I am actually disappointed. However, I don't hold grudges and I forgive Mr. Perdue.

As mentioned already this guy is nothing but fluff on his padded resume.

  16. There is no doubt about it. Jake Day is 10:34 AM. Who else would know so much about him and put himself on a pedestal. What sickens me is the fact that he puts himself in the same category as General Patton!! Only a wannabe would do something like that. We call them LOSERS!!

  19. just graduating OCS doesnt mean anything. every officer in armed forces has to do that. and yes, George patton was a 2nd LT but he also went to a military school, the same one i did. VMI. THEN he went to WEST POINT. His life was service in the Army. you sir are no general george patton. the reason we WON the european campaign.

  20. Good for you 10:34. Well said. The N/G have become the go to military in all recent conflicts. Most of the troops in Afghanastan & Iraq are and have been NG. They are all Heros as far as I am concerned. Joe, thanks for letting that post through.

  21. I don't know anything about Jake Day, good, bad or otherwise. But I don't appreciate criticism of our military. Everything else is fair game as far as I am concerned but criticizing his military service is simply bad form. Please consider this. If you take this as it is intended, then thank you.

  23. Simple answer to the question in this post: NO!

    ReplyDelete
  24. He is a fresh-faced puppy, in both his civilian and military careers: a newbie, the FNK.

He has paper but he has no chops. It's too bad that some the darker side of Salisbury politics rooted him out and groomed him as their sucker d'jour, because with some experience under his belt he could have been a more viable and meaningful candidate, maybe even an upstanding and honest one. He's a kid two years out of school and barely has a life yet. They should have left him alone.

And, by the way, his acting isn't all that great, either.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why compare him to George C. Patton - Day has "Bismarck" written all over him!

As a young man Otto served in the army for a year and became an officer in the Landwehr (reserve).

    ReplyDelete
  26. The comment about the military came from a serviceman who fought in two wars, looking from the inside out. One doesn't get automatic unlimited respect from me or from most of my brothers and sister in arms for just signing the paper, getting the haircut and putting on the uniform. One has to earn it, one accomplishment at a time, just like earning rank.

    March 14, 2013 at 12:02 PM

Oh so OCS Officers aren't good officers? Keep it up. You along with the National Guard Comments. Keep downplaying the service of our contrymen. I don't claim to be Patton... Never did. I'm defending someone who volunteered to serve his community and nation.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It appears he "volunteered" for self gratification purposes. Serving the community and nation happen to be the byproduct.

      Delete
  28. Why does anyone care about what he has or hasn't done in the military? Did Joe Albero or Debbie Campbell ever serve in the armed forces? I certainly agree with the commenter above who said that simply signing the papers and putting on the uniform doesn't make someone a hero, but the disrespect for Day's service here is petty and disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think anyone criticized "your" military.
They, maybe clumsily, pointed out that this particular person in the military hasn't done anything or is in a position to do anything of particular note.

The adjutant position is really a training position, where the junior officer learns the organizational structure and the players from the top end. In civilian terms, it's like a freshly minted lawyer clerking for a judge, or holding the wrench while watching the mechanic. With experience comes worth in the field of endeavor.

I am not knowledgeable at all about Agenda 21, but that is exactly what is happening in Salisbury due to the Democrats running things. The so called "Metro Plan." was created by Democrats and it is the seed to the downfall of Salisbury and the nation.

  34. 1:17 pm correction: "Metro Core Plan."

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why all the whining about his military experience (or lack thereof) which is not mentioned in the post.

I'm more concerned that he is an "urban planner" who thinks that the government should dictate to us like Ireton also thinks is correct.

If Day and JimBeau are elected, it's outtahere for me and mine.

  36. On a side note I am very offended by the title this 3rd Friday event called 3rd Friday! KILLER ART SHOW.

This is condoned by the likes of gun control liberals Jim Ireton, Chuck Cook and Jake Day. If a conservative group called an event that they would be all over it.

  37. It's important to vote for Joe Albero and Debbie Campbell. Wake up Salisbury and give them the assistance they need.

  39. "There is no doubt about it. Jake Day is 10:34 AM. Who else would know so much about him and put himself on a pedestal."

You underestimate the size of the Ireton-SAPOA-Democratic Club machine. It's all about sucking at the public trough for things we neither want nor need, while looking just grand in the newspaper and to the cronies on the other side of the bridge. It's all about local Democrat political aspirations (i.e., Jim Ireton, Chuck Cook, Laura Mitchell, Julia Glanz, etc.) to across the bridge and beyond.

I feel a twinge of pity for those who embark on this leaky slave ship, but mostly for us, they who will be the slaves.

(And for anyone who wants to pull the race card for the use of the word 'slave', I am white and my people were already enslaved for over 400 years when slavery was brought to these shores, so don't go there. If you do pull it, then you are the slave to some dogma put in your head and played on by the likes of these people.)

."..I certainly agree with the commenter above who said that simply signing the papers and putting on the uniform doesn't make someone a hero, but the disrespect for Day's service here is petty and disgusting."

So is disgusting the disrespect for Debbie's work.

She started SNHS (low home loans), worked and works for nonprofit and she really cares for people. She addresses a lot of issues some Shanie's constituents have in Camden neighborhood (Shanie's does not even come to this part of her district - all 70 voters are her cousins).

People from District 1 know that there is no point going to Shanie for help. Debbie Campbell always listens to them and finds ways to help.

There are people in this city who need basic help and will not be able to afford to live in the upscale neighborhoods like "Day's dream downtown". Do you know that the rent in the existing buildings is "damn high" ? Picture this: $ 1,500 a month!

    ReplyDelete
  42. "If he unseats Debbie Campbell, the new president of council, by a 3-2 vote, will be Laura Mitchell. Chew on that for a while."

  43. "Why does he want to be on the Salisbury City Council*, and should he be**?"

    * To make money, to make powerful friends, to get his ticket punched, to build his resume, and to make his mom and dad proud.

    ** Not now, maybe never.

    ReplyDelete
  44. As an outsider, I don't have a dog in your fight. But I'm curious. How many of you talking here have volunteered to walk for Debbie Campbell or Joe? How many of you have offered to make phone calls or write a letter to the editor or make a contribution?

If they lose, it will be because you sat here typing instead of doing those things. If what I read about Salisbury is correct, you will lose if they lose. You will have a "Haves" club and a "Have Nots" club.

You have two candidates who are not part of a machine (I think that's a good thing, being an Independent myself). Odd for an incumbent to be the David in the David vs. Goliath contest, but that is how it reads with Campbell.

Joe has a good shot, but still an uphill climb. You here can make it happen for both of them. The question is, will you?

Not only is he recently divorced he proudly mentions "his lovely fiance, Liz" on his campaign website. He just got divorced and now he already has a fiance??? This guy can't even manage his marital affairs and he wants us to believe he can handle the day to day business of the city!!

What other skeletons does this guy have in his closet?

He also has numerous traffic infractions including having his drivers license suspended. I hope he doesn't have to drive any city vehicle because he would be a major liability. He has one speeding case that is currently active.

  47. Isn't an endorsement from Jim Perdue sort of an ethical stretch? Perdue, who doesn't live in town, stands to benefit mightily from zoning changes, water deals and city land deals.
How would I feel about an endorsement from the university's president, or the CEO of the hospital? Or from a land developer or speculator? The same.

  50. To all of you commenters, I know Jake peronally and since he was a teenager he has "ridden the coat strings" of his father. All the letters behind his name, the degrees and the military service (by the way, the National Guard rocks, unless you are a nobody just trying to make yourself seem more important), cannot make you a decent human being. He is just like his father, a yes man, who brags about all his education. When has he actually worked a REAL JOB. My husband was in the Navy and saw real wartime; did Jake? Hell no!!!! It is a very sad time for Salisbury, and it makes me glad to live outside the city limits!

  51. How many folks actually serve these days for the good old fashioned American sense of duty and not just as a means to a "better" job or political purpose down the road? I mean seriously, he had more professional combat photos of himself than most famous generals!

You need Debbie on the council to help you as mayor.

  55. I guess one reason behind many comments regarding the military and Jake Day is the linking of his mug in uniform to a run for public office. I know what a weekend warrior is having done it for 12 years (I was activated by the President too) and there's a lot of beer that get drunk on weekends and yearly camps.Mr Day's picture in uniform is a diversion as far as I'm concerned. It adds no substance and neither anything else he has done adds any. Just being on boards, committees, study groups, or substituting at the local university says nothing. What has he D O N E? I don't see where he's even held a regular job yet.

  56. I think what everyone wants to know is how and why is he qualified to be a councilman? Maybe he should get involved with local government for a while as a volunteer, such as the many positions on various boards and learn how our local government works (or is supposed to work). And get some EXPERIENCE before running for office.

She was raised in a household that believed in the importance of service...whether it was her dad in the army, her mom as a leader in school activities like packing boxes for soldiers in Viet Nam with Debbie and her elementary school classmates, scouting, or helping elderly neighbors. Whatever the need, they were always there. They did that when no one was watching because it was simply the right thing to do. Debbie has served us as Salisbury residents, faithfully, and she has my vote again.

I treat all my (paying) passengers with dignity and reach out when they have temporary problems. They know it but few remember it. 71. This is an active case for speeding 78 in a 55 zone. It has a line in it about "failure to appear." What does that mean, that he failed to show up in court when he was supposed to? He's running for an office while he's got an open case with the state? Boy, and the newspaper hung Tim Spies for not having his house painted. At least nobody's life was in danger because the guy didn't paint his house. Someone figure out what all this means below:

  72. 10:07, that is such a stupid question. If Debbie Campbell or Terry Cohen or Tim Spies were slamming Jake Day about his military duty, you could ask that.

The ladies have not served in the military.Several members of their families have. You gonna knock the ladies for not serving in the military? Really?

Tim Spies is another matter. Spies served in Iraq in Desert Storm and God only knows how many soldiers are alive today because of his service as a medic and corpsmen there. That's Master Chief Spies to you, fella. As a retired Navy veteran myself, like my father before me, I'll tell you right now to show some respect. Did YOU serve our country?

  74. Here's ANOTHER speeding case. It says Court Dismissed Case, but it shows a fine of $90. Also says "Failure to Appear" again. Sorry if I seem ignorant here, but this is the first time I've used this court record thing online and don't laugh, but I've never had a speeding ticket or gone to court for anything, so I'm not sure what I'm reading here!

We need council members who have experience. A business owner or board of directors doesn't hire senior management people who have zero management experience. Nor should voters hire anyone whose only qualification is being "fresh"*. This is not an entry level position, in terms of what candidates should bring with them to the job. Naivete, a high degree of talking through one's hat and total inexperience are not virtues, they're liabilities.

  97. I'm going to be honest when I say that I'm not too concerned. I have my own opinions on this race, but I won't go by what Judicial Case Search says. A lot of you will dispute this, but speeding laws aren't for safety.

I view it like I view gun control laws. Should we regulate guns because of Sandy Hook? If a ban went into place would you submit to the bidding of the government? Realistically answer that.

You may say that I have "no regard" for the law, but consider the law. Is going 70 MPH on an open lane RT 50 a safety hazard to anyone else? I'm not trying to excuse anyone's bad behavior, but I feel like it can be viewed so many ways.

I'd like any campaign to be run on facts and things that matter. Worrying about what Day does on his drill weekends or his divorce is counter productive. I want to know what Both Jake Day and Debbie Campbell are going to do for the city. I want to hear it from their mouths. I ask questions. I believe this promotes responsible citizenship. Like I said earlier, challenge leadership! That keeps them honest.

    Thanks Joe!

    1. Travy, integrity matters. And to have intgegrity one must obey the laws whether they are ridiculous or not. And I would think you would want someone who is representing Salisbury to have some integrity. Please don't encourage his poor choices.

      Delete
  98. Well, Travis. I look at it like this.

You talk about responsible citizenship. Is Is doing 78 in a 55 zone or 50 whatever in a 35 zone "responsible citizenship"?

Like you, I don't care what Day does on his drill weekends, as long as he is isn't overinflating his role in the military. You know, "resume padding." Like you, I don't care about his divorce. I wouldn't care if he got popped for speeding once or twice.

I do care if he is going that much over the speed limit and speeding that often. We can debate whether that endangers other people 'til the cows come home. Forget the fact (you said pay attention to the facts) that excessive speed is a contributor to accidents, including fatal accidents.

See, if you have someone who frequently disregards the law for something other than civil disobedience to get a dumb law change, then that does not give a "responsible citizen" like me a whole lot of confidence in electing someone who breaks the law a lot to a position that makes the law! It becomes too easy to say, "Aww, it's not that big a deal. Aww, that ethics rule is dumb, so I won't obey it. Aww, come on, it's okay if that development company buys me expensive dinners, it's just food."

As for who will be good for Salisbury, Jake Day talks a lot like Jim Ireton. Tons of enthusiasm, few facts. Promises. Ideas. He talks about what he's done for other communities, but zero specifics.

Debbie Campbell, on the other hand, is a known quantity. She knows finances and has saved the taxpayers a bundle. She's got creative ideas and probably could have done more the city if she hadn't been battling the Powers That Be for 8 years. She's been punished by those Powers for exposing their waste and incompetence. Day seems real content to simply join them.

All you need due is look at the wastewater treatment plant for the story of what they are going to do for the city. Debbie Campbell fought like hell to find out what was going on. Jake Day is endorsed by the person who brought that burden to the people.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Comparing speed laws to gun control laws is a pretty bad comparison.

    Driving is a privilege.
    Bearing arms is a right.

Thanks for the discussion, though. The person calling you Travy should stop being immature. It's like listening to Ireton.
