Peterson Gets 38 Years After Screaming, 'I Did Not Kill Kathleen'

Moments after screaming in court, "I did not kill Kathleen," Drew Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the 2004 murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio.

Peterson had faced as much as 60 years, but Judge Edward Burmila said he gave Peterson some consideration for his years as a police officer and his service in the military.

The sentence was handed down after Peterson, who did not testify at this trial, made an emotional appeal to the judge, at times appearing to choke up.

Peterson began by telling the judge, "Good day, my name is Drew Peterson. I hope I don't aggravate the situation here, but I have a lot of things to be said." Then he screamed, "I did not kill Kathleen!"

  2. Laughing at the system did not help his cause.Every time I saw him on TV he acted like everything was a big joke. That not only affects public opinion, but also affects the jury.Even an experienced attorney in the Casey Anthony trial (Jeff Ashton)laughed and grinned at the defense and the witnesses throughout her trial.I believe that his obvious attempt at belittling the opposition had an adverse result & possibly lost the case.

  3. This guy is creepy looking. All you have to do is look in his eyes and he reeks - CREEP! I would not trust this dude with my cat or dog. He would kill them in a minute - let alone kill his wives! He needs to stay for the full 38 years - and longer!

  5. FUNNY THING IS THOUGH I AM A HARD ASS AND SUPPORT THE DEATH PENALTY, But what if???February 22, 2013 at 1:40 PM

If he did not do this...the killer could be still out there. Do not be so quick to judge. I retired for the Correctional Field after 23 years and observed all types of fabricated Police Reports.

  6. He killed her 1:40. His other wife knew and that's why she ended up disappearing. She was ready to leave him and he was afraid she would tell. She had already told a counselor about his behaviour on the evening of his other wife's death including throwing his clothes and some woman's clothes (not missing wife stacey's) in the washing machine. It's not a coincidence that he just so happens to go to his ex-wife's house the same night she just so happens to drown in a bathtub.

  7. 1:40-His attorneys told him to act like he was distraught even if he was not.Your theory could very well be correct, but his attitude made him appear to care less.A jury watches for some type of emotion.
