  1. This make you wonder why we even have libraries anymore. If all you need them for now is to download content to your smart phone or tablet, why not put network access in (the many more) Post Office buildings and close the libraries?

  2. I love our library and wouldn,t dream of it closing. I like to feel pages turning in my hands.

  3. Libraries make information available to everyone. whether that information is in print, online or even shared from one person to another. We are focused on collecting and organizing that information and making sure it is here for now and for the future.

For a database like Zinio - It is not just that you need to have computer (which 1 in 5 Americans do not have) nor is it solely getting on the Internet (which 1 in 3 American homes do not have), but there is also the purchase of the online subscriptions and maintenance of those subscriptions.

Additionally, there are numerous things libraries do besides loan books and magazines - such as Storytimes for children to develop pre-reading skills, job search assistance, English language learning resources, cultural programs, and homework support. I don't believe those things fall into the mission of the post office.

Libraries are a thriving, growing organization that will be here to support and encourage life-long learning for the next generation. Our method of delivery may change and the content may be different, but the need to keep information available to everyone in our community will always be there.

And to be factual - there are approx 121,000 libraries in the United States, 16,600 of which are public libraries. There are approx 31,000 United States Post Offices.

    Sincerely,

    Andrea Berstler
