Soft-Shell Crab Could Be Md.'s Official Sandwich

Maryland already has an official state desert. A state sandwich could be next.

A pre-filed bill in the Maryland General Assembly would make soft-shell crab the official Maryland sandwich.

  1. A few weeks ago I had the soft crabs at the Riverside Grill in Pocomoke and they were delicious.
    I highly recommend.

  3. Woop de do. Ain't it ever goin' to be time for MD lawmakers (and national too) to get their butts down to important business. I did not vote for candidates to waste their time and my tax dollars on dribble. Anymore these elected officials believe they are in Annapolis and DC to name cakes and blame the other party for important issues not being taken care of that taxpayers want resolved.

Does anyone care how much money or time has been wasted by congress going home for Christmas without making a decision. Now it appears they are on their way back to waste more time and money.

  4. Now I love a soft crab sandwich, but that is the most pretentious soft crab sandwich I've ever seen! It probably has to be dressed up like that so the holy liberals in Annapolis will pass it.

Give me a crab, a couple of slices of bread, and maybe a little pepper relish!

  5. Seriously? Don't they have real work to do? No wonder they couldn't pass a budget last year - or accomplish anything else of actual importance. Last year they wasted the session on gay marriage - this year softshell crabs!

  9. Smith Island Cake..which is made every where by almost every baker in this country. Most are the same cake with different names. Mile high cakes, hammer cakes. Nothing exciting about it. It is the Maryland State Cake. You don't have to make a trip to Smith Island to get one. Just call your local bakery.
I like the soft shell crab. A little salt/pepper and old bay on two slices of bread. Heaven.

  12. I will tell you one thing----I wouldn't eat that if it was put in front of me. My soft crabs don't look anything like this & I would dare say most Eastern Shore Cooks would say the same.
    This looks like a peeler!!

  14. They are going to vote on a soft crab sandwich while I sit here eating peanut butter and jelly. They should have more important things to worry about, like, why people are moving to Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Virginia. In those states if you are a farmer you still have control of your own land.

  15. Is that even a sandwich? And don't our legislators have more important things to address, like their inability to stop spending our money?

  16. I think crab cake sandwich would be a better choice. There's something about bringing out a sandwich with the legs sticking out of the bread that is just creepy.

  17. Can we get rid of the mile high weed in the picture/sandwich?

    Makes the sandwich look nasty.
