Injured Michigan Vet Brings Christmas to His Neighborhood in a Special Way

One injured Michigan veteran, Dan Taylor, is making his community a little brighter this Christmas … one set of Christmas lights at a time. Taylor, who served on the U.S.S. Enterprise in the Navy, lost one leg to diabetes, and is coping with the death of his wife, says he tackles the job of decorating his home for Christmas because of the joy and comfort it brings his family and those around him.

“My great nephews – they like lights, so this is my Christmas gift to them.” The nephews he speaks of lost their father not long after Taylor lost his own wife. Now, his niece and her children join him for the holiday and come together as one family.

“God works in mysterious ways, and we have our little family here that he put together,” said his niece. Of the feat that many find hard to believe he can do with just one leg, he says: “Well you don’t look at it as a disability or as a handicap. And with God, everything’s possible. So, I just took my time, and started hanging lights.”
