'Football as you know it is over'

The recent murder-suicide of Kansas City Chiefs football player Jovan Belcher along with a study linking head trauma with long-term brain disease are prompting some of the biggest names in broadcasting to forecast an end to the sport.

“I’m telling you right now, football as you know it is over. It’s only a matter of time. It’s finished,” said Rush Limbaugh, the radio host who for a brief time was a football analyst for ESPN.

“You start listening to the people talk about the negatives of the game. It creates aberrant behavior. There’s too much drinking. People are shooting people because of the concussions, it’s altering minds. It’s just becoming too dangerous and we as a society are becoming too bloodthirsty in wanting it. And I’m just telling you, I’m giving you a forecast, not tomorrow, I don’t know when, but it’s over. That’s the direction that we are trending.”

  1. The is the dumbest thing I have ever read. Football isn't going anywhere. Limbaugh doesn't have a clue.

  2. it should go somewhere. up is one direction it needs to go.

off the air would be another.

  3. Thanks Rush. Let's see, what was that presidential election predicton of yours again? Just shut your pie hole you idiot. ESPN hired you for insight and color commentary. That went great for you. How long did that last an hour or two. You sir suck to the utmost degree.

  6. This doesn't break my heart in the least. Lots of money to play if you're any good, means nothing when they're finished. They are mostly criminal in their actions & deeds. Pointless, barbaric sport (if you can call it that.)

  9. I believe that he is right for once. When one of the lawsuits against the NFL (No Fun League) pertaining to head trauma is successful, the end is near. Maybe not in my lifetime, but football will change so much it won't be worth watching (or betting on).
As it is now, with all the time outs and "reviews", it is hardly worth watching. The games had aa ebb and a flow years ago. Now it seems to only be an ebb.
How can a 60 minute game take 3-4 hours? Why does the clock run while players are standing around? Why does the clock run so infrequently? The average time in an NFL game that the ball is actually in play is 12 1/2 minutes.

Another comment from the peanut gallery. At least this time he's in a minority.

    LIbtard: how quaint.
