FEMA

One month after Hurricane Sandy, FEMA is running 34 disaster recovery centers in New York, and it plans to open more. Residents can get face-to-face help there. In a blog post, Federal Coordinating Officer for New York Mike Byrne described a federal response that is far from over. He said many homes lack power even though the streets have it. FEMA is working on temporary patches to bring power into homes so residents can return, and, he said, FEMA staff are offering tips on rebuilding to shoppers at local Home Depot stores.
