Wow! Would it be possible to provide the year this was taken?I know the Pure station has'nt been there since the 60's.The cars look late 50's.Amazing photo.
it was interesting to ride down the plaza recently and remember - "that's where Hess Apparrel was, and RE Powell and Benjamins and Woolworth and Reads and Central Drugs and Watson smokehouse and the old Ulman Theatre and White & Leonard" all gone to urban sprawl - it's happened all across America- Salisbury is not the only place
This picture was taken by one of the old hobo up on the railroad track on his cellphone in 1958. not much has changed except the hobo kept the place cleaner back then.
I would say 50's as well. Opportunity Shop one block over to the left and up a bit, and then on the crossing street would be the pool hall, which probably had a name other than "The Pool Hall."
downtown salisbury, rt. 13 and main st.
ReplyDeleteintersection of main st and 13 looking west
ReplyDeleteI would say Rt 13 and Main Street in Salisbury. It looks like the old movie theatre on the left.
ReplyDeleteMain ST Salisbury.
ReplyDeletemain st here in salisbury. where the old movies 6 used to be
ReplyDeleteI tell you this,it is way before my time.I am a young pup. ;)

ReplyDeleteThere is actually not only traffic, but business at that time downtown. What happened?
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Barrie Tighlman, Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart, Bubba and Shanie. The Salisbury, Killers.

ReplyDeleteif fact, id be willing to say this was taken from the railroad tracks.
ReplyDeletephoto really depresses me. good ole days..business on both corners lights coming down the road
ReplyDeleteThis is Main Street and Rt.13. The old Boulevard theater is on the right.

ReplyDeletegreat memories and yes there was a lot of traffic on main st. and 13.
ReplyDelete3:26 I beg to differ...
ReplyDeleteI very seriously doubt the cars are 70's vintage. Look closely. More like early 50's.
And a WHOLE LOT busier and SAFER than today.
ReplyDeleteBut sadly, that is true for a lot of cities. Society has declined. Or should I say, the standards of society have declined.
12:57 is correct (BBT)before Barrie Tilghman
ReplyDeleteBet you wouldn't walk far down there after dark now.
ReplyDeleteI would say 50's as well. Opportunity Shop one block over to the left and up a bit, and then on the crossing street would be the pool hall, which probably had a name other than "The Pool Hall."
ReplyDeleteIf i remember correctly, there were two filling stations across the street from each other on each corner.

You mean like the picture is showing?
Notice that there are NO TRAFFIC LIGHTS there!
ReplyDeleteThis was waaay before 1980, folks.
The car in the foreground is a VW "bug" -- could that be Bob Lawrence driving?

You probably just can't see them. I don't see a stop sign either.
