Remember Ladies & Gentlemen, Its About Those In Need

I took this image at Sam's Club this evening and it about broke my heart. Sam's Club is the #1 location for fundraising for the Salvation Army. To see this stand sitting unattended on such a beautiful warm evening is just wrong.

410-749-RING is the number to call to offer your services. Giving your time for an hour or two is an extremely rewarding experience and ALL of the money raised here stays on the Shore.

With so many people in need this year, please consider making that call to see what locations they have available for your convenience. It was quiet when I went out to the parking lot and I didn't hear any bells ringing at WalMart either.

Thank You, Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas.

A Thanksgiving Promise

Exciting times are just beyond the bend for this country. As we gaze into the future, the lapping of the water at our feet is more agitated than usual, the waves subtly more insistent. Occasionally we hear an unfamiliar sound, a microcrash of waves or a strange cry from an unknown bird. We see unseasonable migrations and we sense that the ground beneath our feet is moving, catlike.

Most have not yet noticed the profound urgency of what is upon us, but there exists a sharpness in the air, beyond the new normal of a November morning.

How To Tell Multilevel Marketing Friends To Buzz Off

The more friends you have, the more likely someone you know will eventually get sucked into a multilevel marketing scheme and start asking you to attend parties to celebrate the guilt-based selling of overpriced household items, magical healing juice, cooking utensils or other annoyances. The business model for these scamtastic enterprises is built on recruiting other saps to sell products as part of your team, as well as getting them to find other victims, even if it requires them to exploit friends and family.

Obama Stimulus Programs Turned Out Big Winners For Soros

Billionaire George Soros gave advice and direction on how President Obama should allocate so-called “stimulus” money in a series of regular private meetings and consultations with White House senior advisers even as Soros was making investments in areas affected by the stimulus program.

It’s just one more revelation featured in the blockbuster new book, Washington, Throw Them All Out, authored by Breitbart News editor Peter Schweizer, reports FOX News.

Soros met with the President’s top economist on February 25, 2009 and twice more with senior officials in the Old Executive Office Building on March 24th and 25th as the stimulus plan was being crafted. Later, Soros also participated in discussions on financial reform.

How did he benefit from these meetings?

in that first quarter of 2009, Soros went on a stock buying spree in companies that ultimately benefited from the federal stimulus.

Republican Study Committee Update

There are clear and responsible ways to solve our debt and economic problems without raising taxes. Congress should move forward with the RSC’s concrete solutions to create jobs, reduce spending, save the safety net, and balance the budget.

- H.R. 408, the Spending Reduction Act, identifies over 100 unnecessary programs, provides a head start towards balancing the budget, and saves taxpayers trillions of dollars over the next decade.

- The RSC Budget for FY 2012 balances the federal budget in less than ten years and institutes reforms that will protect seniors and help save Americans' health care safety net.

- H.R. 2560, the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act, cuts spending immediately, caps it in future years, and requires Congress to send a Balanced Budget Amendment to the American public for approval.

- H.R. 3400, the Jobs Through Growth Act, cuts through red tape, creates a simpler and fairer tax code, and tears down barriers to energy production. In short, it creates jobs by growing the economy, not the government.

- H.R. 1167, the Welfare Reform Act, builds upon the successful reforms of 1996, paves the way to find efficiencies in the 70+ federal welfare programs, and returns welfare spending to pre-recession levels once unemployment falls to 6.5%. Sen. Jim DeMint and other conservatives introduced this bill in the Senate just last week.

I am confident that we can solve these problems and give thanks every day that my family and I live in a country that still abounds with freedom and opportunity.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Missing Cat -- Willards

Dear Joe,

My niece's cat, Little Bit, has gone missing. He's approximately six months old, a gray tabby with distinctive marbling black stripes. He's very friendly.

This is in the Willards area near the park.

If anyone has seen him, or has him, please call 443-232-9197 or 443-944-7096, ask for Jamie.

The whole family is missing him very much.

WHAT HAS YOUR MEGA-CORPORATION DONE FOR YOU?

What a heart warming story. The CEOs of the biggest corporations in America, like Obama Jobs Czar Jeff Immelt, have the balls to act like the US Corporate tax rate of 35% is too high, even though they only pay 18%. They peddle the false storyline that they are the driving force behind the U.S. economy, when the facts prove they have fired Americans and moved the jobs overseas for the last decade. They have gutted the U.S. economy and now use their puppet politicians in Washington DC to demand a 5% tax rate for the profits they have sitting overseas. Bush allowed this to happen during his reign of error. The corporate CEOs declared it would lead to more jobs in the U.S. It led to more jobs in Shanghai and massive bonuses for the CEOs.

The Republican Party is completely captured by these Mega-Corporations. The Democrats play the game, but they are just as captured. Remember what Mitt Romney said, “Corporations are people too.”

The facts are right before your eyes. This country has been destroyed slowly but surely by the greed and avarice of the biggest banks and corporations in this nation. To deny these facts, is to deny reality.

Boehner, Cantor Failed To Sign Letter To Supercommittee Opposing Tax Increases

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va,) were not among the 72 House Republicans who signed a letter to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction--the so-called “Supercommittee”--asking the committee not to call for increasing taxes.

In fact, in all, 170 House Republicans failed to sign the letter, raising the question of whether some House Republicans, including the House Republican leadership, are leaving open the option of supporting some kind of tax increase in cutting a final deficit deal with congressional Democrats and President Barack Obama.

Of the 72 signers, 68 are members of the conservative Republican Study Committee, headed by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio)--who did sign the letter.

“Cutting back the national debt will require stronger private sector job growth and less government spending. Raising taxes would just take us further away from both goals,” Jordan said in a statement.

Phares: Obama's Failed Strategy Leading To Islamic Rise In Egypt

The Arab Spring has failed in Egypt, and the Muslim Brotherhood may succeed in turning the most populous nation in the Middle East into an Islamic fundamentalist state within months, says noted Mideast expert Walid Phares in an exclusive Newsmax interview.

And if the Obama administration doesn’t change its flawed strategy in confronting this threat, the entire region could be in turmoil by this time next year, he adds.

Deposed leader Hosni Mubarak’s former defense minister heads the military council, called the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

“Unfortunately, over the past few months, the Muslim Brotherhood and the military have cut a deal. Now the deal is off,” Phares said in explaining the circumstances that have brought thousands back to the streets in the biggest protests since massive demonstrations forced President Hosni Mubarak from office after 30 years of rule.

The Muslim Brotherhood mobilized the majority of the youths protesting in Tahrir Square to attack the military to force the military council to “cut another deal.”

The Muslim Brotherhood wants power transferred from the military council into its own hands to use it to establish an Islamist state, Phares said.

Maryland Spends $2.3m On Renewable Energy For $637,000 In Savings

Maryland spent $2.3 million last fiscal year on a renewable energy grant program that brought in only $637,000 in savings, according to a report by the Maryland Energy Administration.

That means that Maryland residents recovered roughly $3 in energy savings for every $10 the state spent on the grant program, which helps homeowners pay for the purchase and installation of solar energy systems, geothermal heat pumps and small wind turbines.

"Maryland is leading the nation's efforts in clean energy and sustainability, and our state's growing green jobs sector is vital to our ability to create jobs and compete globally in the new economy," Gov. Martin O'Malley said.

Chicken Jerky Treats Linked To Mystery Illnesses, Deaths In Dogs

Chicken jerky treats may be to blame for dozens of new reports of mysterious illnesses and some deaths in dogs, prompting a renewed warning for pet owners by the Food and Drug Administration.

Christmas Lights

Hi Sweetheart,

I am sorry about getting into an argument about putting up the Christmas lights.

Again, I am very sorry for the way I acted yesterday.

I'll be home later.

The Honorable Barbara Mikulski ~ Debt Bonds

Dear Senator Mikulski,

This email concerns the amount of money the federal government is gifting to foreign countries and the need for that money not only on the Eastern Shore but in America, in general. Unfortunately, with expenditures like the gift to Taiwan recently, the American people will never be able to get back to normal. A couple of nights ago I attended a business meeting and during the discussion it was suggested that an idea we came up with should be forwarded to your office. A discussion about rising debt and what could be done, raised the idea of a “debt bond” similar to the War Bonds. I am sure you remember the war bonds of World War II that our parents bought. Another effort that was very successful was the March of Dimes. As business owners, we thought a “Debt Bond” was a good idea. Let the American people get behind this.

Just this past week an article appeared in my local newspaper about giving Taiwan $10 million! How are we to pay off our National debt if the federal government continues giving away money? How can the American people expect to get caught up when you have gifts of millions to foreign countries? The aid is needed right here, right now!

Sincerely,

Eugene R. Parker

Toll Of NC Murder-Suicide Rises To 4 After Son, 14, Dies

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The death toll from a North Carolina woman's weekend rampage rose to 4 after officials announced the alleged shooter's 14-year-old son had died.

Authorities say Mary Ann Holder, 36, of Greensboro shot six people, most of them under 18, before killing herself. Zachary Lee Smith, 14, died late Monday, Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes told reporters Tuesday.

JFK CONSPIRACY TUESDAY

Below is a very well thought out reasonable op-ed from my paper this morning about the JFK assassination. I’ve always been fascinated by this conspiracy story. The House Select Committee report came out when I was 16 years old. I’ve listened to the audio from the open microphone of one of the motorcycles in the presidential motorcade and it sounds like four shots. I’ve been to Dallas and stood on the grassy knoll. I’ve been in the Book Depository building and looked out the window from where Oswald supposedly got off two perfect shots in a matter of seconds at a moving target. I try to base my conclusions on facts. Based on everything I’ve read, listened to, and observed with my own eyes, I do not believe Oswald acted alone. The implications of the CIA or the FBI being involved in the assassination of a President is too hard to fathom. But, the lone gunman storyline is too farfetched to believe, especially considering Oswald’s trip to the Soviet Union and his other associations.

SEASONAL TRANSPORTATION EMPLOYEE FOUND GUILTY OF THEFT

During July 2011, the Ocean City Transportation Department received a citizen complaint, in reference to a city bus driver who was allegedly stealing fare money while operating the city bus.

Police began investigating the allegation on August 3, 2011, during which a second citizen notified the police of the same city bus driver possibly stealing fare money.

During the investigation police utilized the Town of Ocean City Auditor and the Ocean City Police Crime Analyst to determine the value and dates of the various thefts. The suspect identified as Melody Ashley Lennon, 28 of Salisbury, Maryland who was employed as a seasonal city bus driver, was questioned by police and confessed to the thefts.

Lennon was charged on August 29, 2011 with theft under $1000. Lennon was convicted of theft and sentenced to ten days in the Worcester County Jail, a $500 fine and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $100.

The reason for the link isn't clear, but the findings suggest that BMI, or body mass index, could help identify patients who might be at greater risk after some procedures.

On The Super Committee

This week marks the deadline for the so-called congressional Super Committee to meet its goal of cutting a laughably small amount of federal spending over the next decade. In fact, the Committee merely needs to cut about $120 billion annually from the federal budget over the next 10 years to meet its modest goals, but even this paltry amount has produced hand-wringing and hysteria on Capitol Hill. This is only cutting proposed increases. It has nothing to do with actually cutting anything. This shows how unserious politicians are about our very serious debt problems.

To be fair, however, in one sense members of the Super Committee face an impossible task. They must, in effect, cut government spending without first addressing the role of government in our society. They must continue to insist the federal government can provide Social Security, Medicareand Medicaid benefits in the future as promised, while maintaining our wildly interventionist foreign policy. Yet everyone knows this is a lie.

USPS Postmaster General Says Congress Isn't Even Close To Saving Postal Service

Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe says bills currently in Congress "do not come close" to saving the Postal Service. He spoke at a National Press Club Luncheon Monday. Donahoe says none of the current legislation gives Postal the speed and flexibility it needs to cut annual costs by $20 billion. He says they would give the Postal Service at best a couple of years of profitability and at least many decades of steep losses. Donahoe is asking for a new bill that would let his agency cut Saturday mail service and reduce its workforce. It is also studying 4,000 facilities for closure.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON OCTOBER JOBS REPORT

ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 22, 2011) – Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor’s release of preliminary employment data for the month of October. The report shows that Maryland employers added 3,100 jobs. Maryland’s unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 7.2 percent, and is 20 percent below the national rate of 9 percent.

“Our number one goal is to create jobs and expand opportunity. This month, our State added 3,100 jobs, which helped drive down our unemployment rate to 7.2 percent. Since the start of this year, we’ve added 20,400 jobs, which is the best performance for that period since 2005.

“It is an historic truth that in order for a modern economy to create jobs, we have to make modern investments. While our private sector businesses continued to add jobs last month, we must continue to do everything we can to create and save jobs for our families. That’s why we intend to invest in our innovation sectors, infrastructure and other job creation priorities in the upcoming legislative session.

“Nationally, for every three private sector jobs added since the recession ended, we’re cutting one job in the public sector. As we continue to recover, we must make critical investments and stop cutting our children’s future so we can return to the urgent work of building a stronger, more prosperous America.”

Supercommittee, No Deal

But President Obama has vowed to veto any effort to stop the sequestration. The President said in a speech last night, the only alternative is for Congress to get back to the drawing board and come up with a balanced deficit-reduction plan that includes some tax increases.

Obama Pushing to Preserve Payroll Tax Cut After Deficit Panel Failure

President Obama, after watching the deficit Super Committee collapse under the weight of partisan discord, plans Tuesday to urge Congress to prevent that failure from resulting in a payroll tax increase at the end of the year.

Some on the so-called Super Committee were hoping to include the payroll tax extension, along with an extension of unemployment aid, in a final agreement to cut the deficit by $1.2 trillion. The provision, passed last year, was one of Obama's signature policies and something he has pushed for as part of a larger jobs package that has yet to attract widespread support in Congress. Without a deficit deal, the future of the cut and numerous other provisions is unclear.

The president plans to renew his call for the payroll cut to be extended and expanded in a visit Tuesday to New Hampshire.

Rep. Andy Harris Statement On The Hudson Family Farm

“The poultry industry is the backbone of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Hudson family farm in Berlin is being unfairly attacked by a group, with the state's overwhelming financial backing, that is not concerned about the merits of their claim, but are using litigation as a means of driving family poultry farms out of business,” said Rep. Andy Harris. “Tactics like this, especially when they are backed financially by the state, will destroy the poultry industry. Governor O’Malley was absolutely right to question whether this is an appropriate use of state resources. I didn't think it was when the Maryland Senate took action against state involvement two years ago, and I still don't think it is.”

MS. MITCHELL: DID IRETON ALLOW THOSE SIGNS TO BE POSTED?

More than 48 hours after her referendum petition drive ended, Laura Mitchell’s signs remain posted at the intersection of Main Street and Salisbury Boulevard – on property owned or managed by the City of Salisbury.

New Posts to fall below.

HEY SALISBURY: WANNA LOWER YOUR TAXES?

The City officials to call are Jim Ireton and Laura Mitchell. Here’s why.

They think that charter amendments should be made only after extensive public notice, discussion and referendum vote, And, if the referendum petition is not supported by the required 20 percent of the registered voters, they want the amendment put to referendum anyway. You probably have heard their incessant whining about the recent charter amendment in regard to the City attorney, for which they are still agitating for a referendum vote even though it fell short.

If that amendment goes to referendum, then so should the 2007 charter amendment, made at the request of Barrie Tilghman, that raised the City’s property tax rate to allow for the double-digit tax increase that she wanted and is still in effect. That amendment was adopted by the Council without much advanced public notice or discussion at its first regular meeting after the 2007 election by a vote of 3 (Smith, Comegys and Shields) to 2 (Campbell and Cohen). In fact, Barrie Tilghman waited until after the election to request the charter change or the tax rate increase.

And, just like the latest amendment that Ireton and Mitchell are trying to stop, the 2007 amendment became the subject of a referendum petition drive that fell short of the required support. But, if memory serves, that effort, organized by the late Bob Caldwell, came even closer to the mark (and without the active support of the mayor or the Daily Times).

So, if Ms. Mitchell and Jim Ireton continue to agitate about the latest amendment of Salisbury’s charter, they should expand their whining to include both the 2007 amendment mentioned above – as well as dozens of other charter amendments that have been made by prior city councils with little public notice or opportunity for public comment.

So Deep An Evil?

Imagine you are Ben Bernanke, or on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. The time frame is July and August of 2011 and the price of gold is on a tear. Commodities inflation has been persistent and is breaking out everywhere. Your prediction that inflation "is contained" and is a "temporary phenomena" are beginning to look absurd. What do you do? Simple. Hint that QE3, the primary drive of inflation, is coming and then fail to deliver at the September FOMC meeting. That takes care of the price of gold and the gold stocks. Ah, but those pesky commodities speculators keep making money and trading against what you want the markets to do. So what is to be done there? Hey Jon Corzine, how about you tank the largest broker for the small commodities punters in the world, and we let them twist in the wind? That will serve them right. Teach them to bet against the government approved scenario. – ZeroHedge

Sussex Council Approves Redistricting Plan

GEORGETOWN — Sussex County Council has settled on new boundaries that will shape the representation of county government for the next 10 years.

At its Nov. 15 meeting, council unanimously adopted a redistricting ordinance and accompanying maps that establish new council districts through 2021 based on last year’s U.S. Census, which showed significant growth and shifts in the population from 2000 and 2010.

The five new districts will be used to determine residency and the areas represented by council, a five-member legislative body of county government whose members are elected from individual districts. Each member serves a four-year term.

Council Adopts Changes To Pension Fund Oversight

GEORGETOWN — Sussex County officials are changing the way the county administers its $67 million pension fund by doing away with the current board and replacing it with a seven-member committee.

Sussex County Council also considered including a neutral third-party review of the investments. Councilman George Cole, R-Ocean View, called such a review another layer of scrutiny.

“There should be another way to look at pensions. We’ve done a great job, but in the future is this the best way to do it to protect the long-term financial interests of pensions?” Cole asked.

Poet-Bashing Police

LIFE, I found myself thinking as a line of Alameda County deputy sheriffs in Darth Vader riot gear formed a cordon in front of me on a recent night on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, is full of strange contingencies. The deputy sheriffs, all white men, except for one young woman, perhaps Filipino, who was trying to look severe but looked terrified, had black truncheons in their gloved hands that reporters later called batons and that were known, in the movies of my childhood, as billy clubs.

Municipal Bankruptcy Explained: What It Means To File For Chapter 9

In the world of public finance, Orange County, California, has long had an unfortunate distinction: In 1994, the county filed the largest municipal bankruptcy declaration in history, seeking court assistance to restructure $1.7 billion in debt.

This month, however, Orange County finally lost its dubious claim to fame.

On November 9, political leaders in Jefferson County, Alabama — home of Birmingham, the state’s largest city — asked a federal bankruptcy court to help the county restructure debt of more than $4 billion. The county’s debt burden stems from a disastrous investment in a local sewer system and amounts to nearly $7,000 for each of the 658,000 men, women and children who call the county home. That a bankruptcy declaration of such magnitude is possible has raised alarms nationally over whether more municipal crises may be on the way.

Accused Killer Has 20-Year Criminal Record

GEORGETOWN — The man charged with murdering his 70-year-old woman neighbor Halloween night has a long history of earlier convictions.

Michael Purnell, 43, was arrested Nov. 3 and charged with killing Dorothy Gudger, his neighbor in the River Village community in Long Neck. It's the most recent and most serious charge on a criminal record in Sussex County that began more than 20 years ago.

According to court records, Purnell pleaded guilty to rape in 1988. He was sentenced to seven years' probation and was discharged from probation after just five years.

In September 1998 Purnell was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, but the charges were dropped three days later.

Washington Lobbyists Crafted $850,000 Secret Plan For Bank Lobbyists To Undermine Occupy Wall Street

This weekend, the MSNBC show Up! With Chris Hayes broke a stunning story about how Washington lobbyists are scrambling to undermine the protesters on Wall Street and across the country.

Hayes’ report, which can be viewed here, details how the Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford (CLGC) compiled a secret plan to undermine Occupy Wall Street for the American Bankers Association (ABA).

The plan, which CLGC was demanding $850,000 to implement, was presented in a secret memo that was leaked to Hayes’ staff. The memo warns that Occupy Wall Street, particularly if it is embraced by the Democratic Party, threatens to “have very long-lasting political, policy, and financial impacts on the companies in the center of the bullseye.”

TROOPERS FOCUS ON DUI, SPEED, AGGRESSIVE DRIVING DURING HOLIDAY SEASON; CRIME PREVENTION PATROLS ALSO UNDERWAY

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Not much can take the cheer out of the holidays faster than a needless injury or death caused by dangerous driving behaviors, so Maryland state troopers have already launched increased and directed patrols aimed at preventing those tragedies.

Just last week, on the evening of November 14, 2011 and less than an hour apart, two people died in Maryland at the hands of suspected drunk drivers. Shortly after 6:30 p.m. in Cecil County, a motorcyclist was stopped waiting to make a turn when he was struck from behind by a pickup truck and killed. The driver of the pickup was impaired by alcohol. Riding in the pickup were the two teenaged daughters of the driver.

Less than an hour later in Prince George’s County, a concerned citizen called Maryland State Police to report a suspected drunk driver. Moments later, the driver left the roadway and struck a pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers took the driver into custody and found he had not only been drinking, but was in possession of marijuana and oxycontin.

Maryland State Police have already begun extra enforcement patrol efforts targeting drunk drivers, aggressive drivers, and those exceeding speed limits. Last weekend, troopers conducted a joint DUI sobriety checkpoint with Prince George’s County Police. Troopers from the Golden Ring Barrack will be working with Baltimore County Police in an enforcement effort this week. Extra patrols and cooperative enforcement initiatives with local law enforcement agencies will continue throughout the state during the next six weeks.

“We take seriously the important and increased responsibility law enforcement has to protect our citizens while they are traveling or shopping during the holiday season,” Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel Marcus L. Brown said. “Extra troopers, working in cooperation with local police agencies, will increase our ability to appropriately respond to the increase in unsafe drivers and criminal activity this time of year can bring. I urge everyone to make safe driving a priority and to employ appropriate crime prevention techniques while shopping in the coming weeks.”

State Police traffic safety initiatives include orders for DUI saturation patrols to be conducted by troopers at each of the 22 barracks in Maryland. Troopers will also be conducting sobriety checkpoints at various locations, usually in cooperation with other state and local police departments. Extra troopers will be on grant funded overtime supplied by the Maryland Highway Safety Office and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Speed and aggressive driving enforcement will also be priorities for troopers. High visibility enforcement is planned on Maryland roads, with a special emphasis on interstates and major highways where the majority of travel will be occurring. Colonel Brown has ordered that all troopers, not just those on special assignments, are to be working DUI, speed and aggressive driving enforcement whenever they are not handling a call for service. Barrack commanders will be focusing these special enforcement efforts in areas where they have experienced the most crashes related to DUI, speed, and aggressive driving.

Maryland is experiencing record low crime rates, but troopers know crime can spike when criminals sense an increase in opportunities. That is why troopers will also be conducing crime prevention patrols in shopping districts within their jurisdictions. Shoppers can expect to see marked patrol cars moving through parking lots throughout Maryland. Plainclothes troopers will also be working crime suppression assignments in shopping areas.

Shoppers are encouraged to use common sense and apply some basic crime prevention tips to stay safe during the shopping season. Troopers encourage shoppers to:
-park in well-lit areas;
-go shopping with one or more friends if possible;
-always be aware of your surroundings and of people who may be acting suspiciously;
-report suspicious circumstances or persons to security or police right away;
-do not leave purchases, pocketbooks, cell phones, or other valuables visible inside your vehicle;
-always lock your car and take the key.

This morning I watched WMDT and it is clear what the long-range plan is- dissolve the city and have the county take it over. No thanks.Palmer Gillis was whining about the council and the Feldman's building this morning and Jim has hustled right out to add his two cents. Reality - the city doesn't own Feldman's. The city seems to want to TAKE the building from its rightful owner and then Palemr wants it and Jim wants to help him????? Palmer wants the city to be dissolved into the county. He doesn't even live here.Jim is helping by doing everything he can to slow the council down and use the press to fan the flames (with Laura and Shanie in tow). Jim is out of control with his melt downs. I saw it for myself yesterday. Then, you have Barrie Tilghman, Mike Dunn, Louise Smith, Laura Mitchell, Shanie Shields, Palmer GIllis, and a whole host of political has beens with an agenda of "crushing" teaming up with Jim and circulating the petition. That's their right, even though they misrepresented the purpose of the change to many signers. Then, they fell short on the signatures and made city staff come in on the weekend to "receive" it anyway so that they can - you guessed it - have another press op. A little abuse of power? Now they still want to take it to referrendum and continue to call the press for more - yes, press ops. Oh, a new one was dropped yesterday. Since the fireworks will be at SU on July 4th, the Only Batemen road improvements will have to work around that. I guess that will somehow be the council's fault too. This is a scheme by a well known cast of characters to create chaos to make the citizens feel so frustrated and hopeless that they will disband the city. We have good representatives in Terry, Debbie and TIm. I will continue to support them.

Study Shows Fox News Viewers Less Informed On Major Stories

Quick, were Egyptian protesters successful in their bid to overthrow longtime president Hosni Mubarak earlier this year?

According to a new poll (PDF) from Fairleigh Dickinson University, if you watch Fox News you are significantly less likely to know the correct answer to that question than if you mostly avoid news shows and newspapers all together.

After controlling for factors like partisanship, education, and other demographic factors, the pollsters found that Fox New viewers were 18 points less likely to know that the revolt was successful than their non-active news consuming counterparts. Fox News viewers were also 6 points less likely to know that the Syrian uprising has yet to succeed.
