Business owners started calling me saying, what hole is this guy living in. Is this guy clueless.
Many business owners are struggling like there's no tomorrow. Unfortunately, I listen to people who have been in business for 40 and 50 years here on the shore and while they have experienced recessions before, NOTHING has brought them to their knees like the latest depression.
Maybe WBOC and trying to convince people that things aren't what they seem. Maybe they're hoping they can pick up additional advertisers because EVERY ONE ELSE is doing so well. Is this supposed to encourage competition?
Well, I wouldn't fall for this crap Folks. I wish things were better for every one, believe me. However, (IMHO) there's NO WAY businesses are up 7.5% over last year. Every restaurant owner I've spoken to is crying the blues, (a figure of speech). You know the old saying, don't piss on my head and tell me its raining. It should end with, by Craig Jahelka.
OK, so the BIG question is, do you believe, (or is your) business up 7.5% over last year?
New Posts to fall below.
did he get that from the AP or is that straight from O'malley? maybe it is David Axelrod? I bet the Governor's office, cause he spews his lies everyday about how GREAT business is in MD. Top 5 worst states for taxes. YEAH, business does REAL well in MD.
ReplyDeleteI hope the people see that WBOC is joining the Liberal Mouthpiece Club, and it will NOT help them do more business.
He is out of his mind.
ReplyDeleteI believe he was huffing paint before that statement.
ReplyDeleteWBOC is full of it. My business is down more than 70% and I have laid off all of my employees. I have no idea what I'll do to survive the holidays as I amheaded into my slow season. My competitors have either closed their doors o0r they are getting ready to. This man is a liar.
ReplyDeleteThe business where I work is but I am sure not most are.
ReplyDeletei believe he is only talking about the businesses that advertise with sbynews! after all, they are the only businesses in the world making a profit right now! all thanks to sbynews!
ReplyDeleteWe were in the Millsboro Lowe's last night around 7. I saw maybe 3 other people in the store. My husband even commented how dead the store was.
ReplyDeleteNO
ReplyDeleteConsidering business has fallen off by 56% since 2008 , 7.5% is nothing , even if it's true.
ReplyDeleteI want to live in the world this guy lives in! Haven't we all dreamed of living in fantasy land???
ReplyDeleteI lost everything, when I blow get out of the way.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I seem to have pissed off someone at WBOC, can you guess. I am rejecting some of the nastiest comments I've ever seen on here. LMAO
ReplyDeleteNumbnut
ReplyDeleteI believe it was a commercial and not part of their show. I'm a member of the chamber of commerce and this guy is full of crap. When I saw it I was shocked at his arrogance.
ReplyDeletemy business is down also.I wonder if WBOC is up 7.5%.I'm not very confident on what WBOC reports,I can't wait to find out where he got his numbers.
ReplyDeleteI support the advertisers right here on your blog when I can. When I see advertisers on wboc I make a point not to support them because I know it cost a small fortune just to run an ad on television. Now we know those companies running ads on wboc are up 7%. Well, not if I can help it.
ReplyDeleteThis is the Demacrap mantra. Just like the misinformation on retail sales being up. Sure they are up from last year because everything costs more then last year. hat alone explains it. I want some of what this boob is drinking.
ReplyDeleteI've had dealings with this guy in the past and I don't like him. The pissing on my head thing explains him best.
ReplyDeleteI handle many small businesses in this area and I can tell you that business is down from 10% to 50% or more, depending on the type of business it happens to be.
ReplyDeleteCan you prove he is wrong? Truth is no you can't. You are the one full of shit. You just spout off at th mouth without knowledge or any checking of facts. You are an idiot.
ReplyDelete"everything is fine on the Eastern Shore"
ReplyDeleteI guess he was talking about China.
anonymous 1:46, No, the ANSWERS are coming from our viewers. I have asked if people believe this to be true. In my experience I can say it is not true at all. However, we're leaving opinions up to commenters. FACT, look at all for FOR RENT/For Lease signs everywhere. Look at ALL of the businesses that have closed their doors. Yeah, we're up 7.5%, NOT.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the first time WBOC has screwed up the news. Last year they announced that a new study showed that low dose aspirin has no benefits for the average person.... I called them on the phone, the response was "That is what was on the teleprompter"..Idiots!!
ReplyDeleteyou used the right word "DEPRESSION". this is no recession we're in....it's much worse than that. between the price of groceries and gas who can afford anything else?
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine just had to let his own father go. Another friend of mine had to let his daughter go. These are well known companies that have been on the shore for more than 30 years. I have to disagree with wboc. Maybe this guy doesn't go to home depot or lowes. From the sound of his success he can afford to hire someone and that would explain his lack of reality.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the only businesses he spoke to were bankruptcy lawyers and real estate foreclosure auctioneers.
ReplyDeletethis past week they reported that vitamins and minerals do more harm than good or just aren't doing good at all.
ReplyDeletethey forgot to say that study/report was done by the "drug companies". oh my.......
I've been in business 16 years and sales are down by nearly SIXTY PERCENT! If it weren't for the fact that people are fixing more things just to get buy (instead of buying new) and I get the repair business I'd be out of business for sure! I'm still barely scraping buy, rent and health insurance a month past due, back taxes to pay etc.
ReplyDeletewow,
ReplyDeletemy opinion of wboc just went down
da plane da plane boss dont you see it ? he lives on fantasy island lol
ReplyDeleteWBOC is up
ReplyDeleteJoe It is simple OBAMA math .If ten places sell say jeans and one goes out of business. Then all the people that went to the store that is out of business has to go to the other nine their by "increasing business by 7 percent" Not mention of the place that went out of business has x number on unemployment or do not mention the truck driver who does not get that load to the store that is out of business. and now you now the business
ReplyDeleteWe're down this year. SHould break even overall, but certainly not +7%.
ReplyDeleteI could see where they might be +7%. Car dealers were hurting bad. They seem to be doing a bit better now, and that's most of WBOC's advertising base. I think Holly Kia underwrites the entire AM news show.
I just want to meet the weather girl.
ReplyDelete7.5 is really not that much of an improvement and maybe last year was horrible. Compare it to three years ago and it is probably still in the toilet.
ReplyDeleteAnother mind suffering from delusions of grandeur!
ReplyDeleteMaybe he is talking about all the banks and their bailout money
ReplyDeleteI saw this statement the other night and as soon as I saw it I was wondering what country this idiot is from. It sure isnt here. Ive been in construction most of my life and there are no jobs out there. This guy is just propping up Obama and that is it. What a liar. Sounds like the same crap the politicians are saying. This guy needs to get a grip on reality. Im sure some businesses are OK but for the most part they are not.
ReplyDeleteI just want to meet you to Anon 2:57.
ReplyDeleteToday's forecast: Sunny with a chance of love!
you will not print this and I will put my name to it. Our business is up 13% over last year and we sell life insurance
ReplyDeleteSilly remarks about an increase in business aside, you have to admit that WBOC is on the right track because they have really hot girls on the nightly broadcasts!
ReplyDeleteMr Holston, I increased the amount of life insurance I carry this year. Wanted to be able to leave something to my children because they would just break even if they sold the house and my 401(k) has dropped significantly. This way I have some confidence they'll be able to pay my burial expenses and have SOMETHING left over.
ReplyDeletewboc & wmdt both suck !!!!! i watch my news from wjz-tv 13 from Baltimore.those eastern shore tv stations 16 & 47 are wanna b tv stations.Jimmy Hoppa is the man from tv 16 along with his mrng show babes. Eileen are you married i hope not. Jahelka must b smoking some good shit man! hey man catch a good buzz for me. not nnnnnnnnnnnnn ooooooooooo ttttttttttttttttttttt.the good ol Eastern Shore can't get up to speed.what do you expect from a bunch country bumpkins. come Elmer ,Wilsie we need feed the hogs
ReplyDeletehey 3:44
ReplyDeleteLife insurance is up , lot of people think of calling it quits.
If you dont love it (4:18) leave it. If you are not here yet dont come....sooi sooi he haw!
ReplyDeleteAlice Bavis stated that WBOC is "up" but I believe that WMDT is catching "up" and will surpass them in the very near future.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, that was pretty arrogant of her to gloat that they are "up" while most business are "down." I guess she has never heard of the adage..."What goes up, MUST come down" as well as the word "karma." I believe that it is just a matter of time for WBOC's rankings to descend into the cellar, just as I'm sure their profits are doing no matter what Bavis claims.
As far as Jahelka in my opinion, he seems to be just another petty, phony and pretentious & deceitful actor (just as many on the broadcasting crew seem. He appears to be greedier than our politicians are and may have stated that falsehood to deceive businesses into believing that everything is going "A-OK" in order for them to adverti$e & to $pend ca$h with their station.
I for one, would NEVER invest my hard earned cash by advertising with them. I believe doing so would be the equivalent of throwing my cash in the trash!
I do not believe that at all I have a cleaning business and my business is down 50%. I have lost several businesses due to the economy and have never gotten them back. I struggle to keep what I have now and the only reason I still have those cleanings are because they are seniors and they are no longer able to do it themselves. Before the economy took a dive I cleaned homes for construction businesses and now everyone knows there is not much of that going on.He needs to walk a day in my shoes then tell me how great it is.
ReplyDeleteplease everyone join WBOC sucks on facebook.
ReplyDeleteInsurance brokers need to clean their offices more often.
ReplyDeleteI prepared our Maryland Sales Tax today for the month of September. I can tell you that our sales were down 39 percent compared to the same month last year. They are down 61 percent from 4 years ago. We have 8 less employees than we had 4 years ago because we couldn't afford the payroll.
ReplyDeleteWe now run on a skeleton crew and we're making it, but barely!
But oh yeah, everything is fine here on the shore!
What a dumbnut!
Doesnt make sense that Lowes and Home Depot are not busy. All the boarded up businesses have to be getting plywood from somewhere.
ReplyDeleteNo....this guy is an idiot. Our business is down about 60%. Our employees have been cut 33% over last year and I am now doing the work as well, rather than following up on leads, getting contracts signed, etc., the way it was 2 years ago. Both Lowes and Home Depot sales have dropped to the point that they are cutting employee hours much earlier and deeper than ever before. One Lowe's on the shore even cut it's store hours. A friend of mine who works for a local bank told me they are considering cutting tellers or hours, and that after reviewing predictions made by the government as well as the rate at which deposits are dropping off. He also told me that they are expecting that many who were working last year will be sitting at home this winter. He was not even remotely optimistic about the economy. This Jahelka (or whatever his name is) is full of s***. Very bad times are just weeks away. But it's WHATEVER!
ReplyDeleteMy business of 23 years has dropped over 50 percent in the past two years. At one time, I had five employees plus myself and now I am down to just me! There is no way I would bring an employee in as the headaches of all the taxes, plus unemployment hassles.....been there done that. No more!
ReplyDeleteI will work 70 plus hours a week to do what it takes to survive. I have learned how to live on basically "nothing" and when I see people buying expensive jewelry, clothing, cars. etc - it just makes me want to go HMMMM! Oh well, will watch more businesses close their doors in the months to come and just hope that I am one of the survivors!
