Funeral Procession for Fallen Officer to Impact Wilmington / I-95 Traffic Today

Wilmington -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that due to the Funeral Services for New Castle County Police Lieutenant Joseph Szczerba there will be minor delays in the morning as the funeral procession travels from the Krienen & Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, to the Chase Center on the Riverfront, 815 Justison Street, Wilmington. Delays are to be also expected during the afternoon as the procession travels from the Chase Center to the Elsmere Fire Company, 1107 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere.

From Funeral Home to Chase Center:
The funeral procession will begin from Krienen & Griffith Funeral Home located on Kirkwood Highway and is expected to leave around 7:30AM, the procession will have between 20 & 30 vehicles and they will try to maintain a 35 mph speed limit to the Chase Center. The procession will cross Kirkwood Highway at Poplar Avenue, both eastbound Kirkwood Highway will be temporally closed near Beech Avenue or Oak Avenue. They will travel west Kirkwood Highway to RT 141 SB Ramp. RT 141 SB will be closed at Kirkwood Highway (including ramps for southbound) to the I-95 NB Ramp. I-95 NB will have a rolling road block beginning around the Churchman's Road overpass (RT 1/RT 7) and will start around the same time the procession starts from the funeral home. The procession will then exit on Martin Luther King Boulevard (Exit 6) and go the Chase Center.

From Chase Center to Elsmere Fire Company:
The funeral procession will begin to leave the Chase Center between 3:30 & 4 PM. This procession will be very large with numerous police vehicles escorting the hearse. The travel route will be SB Market Street which turns into US 13, US 13 SB to RT 141 NB, RT 141 NB to Kirkwood Highway, Kirkwood Highway to Elsmere Fire Company. The ramps from I-295 and I-495 to US 13 SB will be closed for the procession to pass by, all intersections along the route including crossovers will be closed for the procession. RT 141 NB will be closed at the US 13 overpass. The ramps from I-95 and I-295 will be closed to RT 141 NB for the procession. EB Kirkwood Highway will be closed at RT 141 to allow the procession to proceed to the Elsmere Fire Company.
