Salisbury Maryland The 2nd Most Dangerous City In America

Ladies & Gentlemen, only on Salisbury News can you get material like this. I'd like to thank WICO & Mr. Bill Reddish for bringing such a community format via Radio whereas important information like this can be spread throughout our community and inform the Citizens what is really going on.

The link below is this morning's Bill Reddish Show. If you'd like to listen to it simply click on the link. You'll notice how Mr. McIver even mentions they expect crime to be even worse the next time around. We'd also like to thank Mr. McIver for the diligence he puts into this material as we all know if we left it up to the Daily Times you'd never hear a word of this, just like last time.

  1. Webster and the mayor has failed us! Joe, what can we do as citizens. I feel unsafe just sitting at a red light. Since the chief and mayor isn't doing anything, what can we do? Who do we need to talk to? I had to go to pats pizzari and saw 3 different SPD traffic stops. I understand that traffic may lead to arrests but we need these officers out on the streets. We need to go over the chief and the mayors head.

  2. Well this sure doesnt attrct any business owners to desire to come and set up shop here with some,(real jobs) does it. Doesnt make anyone want to retire here and build the retirement home here. In my opinion the Mayor should have two main goals, get the chief and police department back in order and get businesses to reinvest here,(manufacturing businesses). Alot of the people that were born here have no where to work since the building collapsed and not many people can get loans to improve their homes. Crime and (real) jobs is what I would focus on.

  3. Call the mayor. Email the mayor. Tell HIM what you want, then tell the blogs. Otherwise, don't complain about the shape things are in.

It's like voting. If you don't vote, don't complain.

If you don't contact the mayor, don't complain.

  4. ...and if you contact the mayor, you put someone's job in jeopardy - the only people who try to do their jobs, get threatened with losing them.

  5. folks here's the deal. see NYC expels the worst offenders in their schools then pays yes thats right pays wicomico county to allow the expelled kids to go here. so your children are sitting in school with kids so violent NYC schools can't handle them. Now these kids from NYC are able to go back home with all their connections there and here and guess what you have?
Not hard to see why the crime rate here is so bad. All because some idiot at the county allows this to go on!
yeah what a great idea, don't send us your best, send us the scum you don't want so we can add a few more dollars to the school budget!
    what a freaking joke!
If my kids attended wicomico county schools I would have someone ass over this!

I've never heard this, is it true? Joe can you find out or separate this into another conversation to see what other readers know about this?

  8. So the City will get about $170,000 under the grant application to MD to fight crime.

In how many ways is the City and City Council wasting $170,000 that could have been redirected to fund these same efforts without a grant? I bet we could trace this level of spending to a few nuisance properties and the police hours wasted in court by individuals who are no shows or who are not prepared.

For a measly $170,000 the Council could have taken this matter seriously and voted to increase funding for policing rather then more toys for the SFD or other non-important things.

And, assuming Shanie actually said there are no gangs in Salisbury, you would have to wonder where she got that opinion. Perhaps the City Council President, Louise Smith, should recognize we have a serious crime problem and invite the SPD Chief to every council meeting for an update. Every other Monday evening at the Council Meetings would keep our Chief in the City more, give residents an opportunity to address their questions, and most importantly ensure our Council members are knowledgeable on crime matters and are prepared to consider the question when asked to vote on funds for it.

  11. Anon 1:04,

It's sort of true...I highly doubt the kids are sent from NYC, but it is true that Wicomico County is one of the only schools in MD that maintains an alternative school (the last resort before school-age kids go to jail). And problem kids from all over the state of MD are sent to school here in the Wicomico county alternative school and Wicomico county does get money for this. From what I hear, the county is seriously considering ending this program, but I'm not sure at what level of discussion this is at.

IF YOU call the mayor how is someone else going to lose their job? If they are doing their job they shouldn't be worried about losing it. Cry this crap to someone that is dumb enough to believe it.

  13. There have been many vigilante groups formed in various cities.
The largest is the guardian angels who originated in New York City.
It may come to this because of the limited power the police have.
I would like to see this happen in the city as well as the county.

  14. vigilante group might be a good thing...I'd go in for it. Any bikers interested in slow evening rides around town?

  15. There's a Guardian Angels chapter in Baltimore. If we could generate enough interest, maybe they'd be willing to help set us up down here?

Kind of ironic - a lot of our problems come from B'more, so let's ask B'more for help in fixing it.

    Their website is: www.guardianangels.org

  18. You folks in Salisbury are gonna have to stop bitching on this blog and write your mayor and your council. Write your editor. Speak up at a meeting. Carry signs in front of you government offices.

Your continued silence is killing your town, and maybe it will get you too.

  19. I lived in Baltimore and are familiar with working with the Guardian Angels. They are there for the PEOPLE and I found them to be very helpful. I worked in downtown Balto. right next to Lexington Market. During the winter months an Angel would walk me safely to my car EVERYDAY. I love those guys!
