A Towing Comment Worthy Of A Post

"OK. i have alot to say. being a 3rd generation in a family towing business. Their are alot of scams and crooks out there in all of our eyes. One if the city police respond to a disabled/accident etc tow the city does not allow owners request as they claim due to un insured and un licensed wreckers coming into the city. Now the state police and wico sheriffs office do allow owners request.
CITY ORDINANCE

5.64.020, License Required - adds that companies must be licensed by the city treasurer in order to tow within city limits; and

5.64.070, Procedure for Dispatching of Towing Vehicles - eliminates "own choice request" (must follow rotation list).

Now if the customer has the money to pay the tow bill there is NOOOO reason why the wrecker service shouldn't have tow'd the vehicle straight to their house or place they wanted it repaired. As for not answering the phone to get more storage, well take a close look at the companies accused of that.. BRAND NEW wreckers and rollbacks all of them. You don't see the older companies like Williams, Simpsons, or Adkins riding around in brand new equipment. Those other younger company have to scam ppl and insurance companies just to survive. While they ride around in brand new rigs thinking their big shots. Honest towing companies don't rely on POLICE calls to survive, they are merely a bonus and its a privilege to be on the rotation list. Not a right.

  2. Well i have to say this, every time i see a Delmarva towing truck it has at least one car on it if not 2 . And every time i ride by simsons or adkins towing there is 5 or 6 trucks just sitting there. And as far as keeping all new trucks, I think some of his are new and some are a few years old . He just takes very good care of his stuff.

  3. I DONT THINK WE ARE COMPARING APPLES TO APPLES. DELMARVA TOWING IS NOT IN THE HEAVY RECOVERY LIKE SIMPSONS AND ADKINS ECT. SO EDDIES OVERHEAD SHOULD BE ALOT LESS . ALLOWING HIM TO UPDATE EQUIPMENT MORE OFTEN THEN MOST.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I wouldn't say Simpson's equipment is old, it's up to date, well maintained which makes all the difference in the world. I know I can rely on Bob Simpsons company any time of day or night, no matter what state I am in, he'll send a truck to come get me and my truck and bring us home safely, without taking off an arm and a leg.

  5. Simpson's may have 5-6 trucks sitting but that just means they've got 4-5 out on calls. Plus they are all paid for except for 1 which is from being refurbished.

  6. Simpsons and Williams is all our family uses. Friendly, reliable, reasonable.....word of mouth is always good, honest people. Remember, your reputation preceeds you.

  7. Simpson's and Williams are the only original surviving tow companies left in the area- there is soemthing that should be said for that.

  8. We all know that the towing companies are on a rotation list with the police agencies. The problem is, is that if the agencies stuck to this rotation list it would be fair. They dont...certain officers have certain towing companies numbers in their cell phones and call them...for dare I say a kick-back?! Another way that the officers get around the rotation list is to tell the person needing the tow that certain tow companies who will remain nameless...can pick their vehicle up and then call into dispatch and tell them that it is owner's request for that certain tow company. When it is owner's request, the towing company does not go to the bottom of the rotation list. This sucks!! I know for a fact that this happens with all 3 police agencies in Wicomico County!! The small, honest companies can't afford "special favors" and are suffering. To those honest officers that do not do that, you have our respect and thank you. I'm not crapping on all officers, just the ones who do this crap. They need be fair to all of the towing companies!!

  9. How long has grants towing been around? Hastings towing takes care off all my towing needs. From my cars to my heavy recovery. And i pretty sure they have been around for some time.

  10. Just wanted to mention that before you even need that tow truck, talk to your auto insurance agent about towing/road service policies. For a very small amount of money I have a policy that reimburses those costs to me %100,so you can use any service YOU choose. In 2002 I got stranded in Lancaster PA with a blown rod and the coverage I had for towing covered the entire $400+ tab from a local tow company.I gave my agent a receipt and they issued a check immediately. Its not that expensive when you consider the costs of towing, which have risen because of fuel prices.

  11. Do you really want this guy to be in a tow truck with you alone in the middle of the night? For some reason I can't find his murder conviction in there yet, but don't worry.....its there, and I'll find it.

  12. wow wtf does this have anything to do with towing... whoever post this is rediculous and needs to grow up... wow at least man up and sign your name and not sign anon. like child

  13. I GUESS THAT I HAVE SO MUCH MONEY TO SPEND THATS WHY I HAVE NEW TRUCKS . CANT TAKE IT WITH YOU .AND GETTING READY TO BUY A FEW MORE SOON.HAVE A NICE DAY .THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN. ALSO ALL TOW COMPANYS CHARGE ABOUT THE SAME FOR POLICE TOWS

    ReplyDelete
  14. There are 20+ towing companies in Salisbury. Most are on this police rotation. Most are honest. The towing guys on here that are posting bashing comments about other companies should be ashamed of themselves. Your shit stinks too man!!! You should be trying to help your fellow towing companies. But why should I expect that from you, you dont offer to help clean up accident scenes, you dont wave as we pass by, and you are rude to anyone that doesn't work for you. The towing operators in this town need to learn to work together instead of against each other.
For all those that complain about the towing industry in Salisbury.....There are unlimited factors that go into a situation where police agencies have to have your car towed. No two tows are the same, in regards to accidents. The police give us 20 minutes to respond to the call or else we get bumped for the next company on the list. That means, if you put your ride in the ditch at 2am we gotta be there by 220am. You want us to go out in the cold, rain, snow, and any other foul weather, then, climb into the water filled ditch, loaded with poison ivy, fallen debris, gasoline, oil and any other fluids that leak out due the accident, and recover your car for a minimal fee, WAKE UP!!!!!! I should get paid for what I do, not what you think is reasonable. Our trucks roll when they are called out, regardless of the situation, to ASSIST PEOPLE in their time of need. When you go to work you expect to be paid for what you do, why should'nt we? Trucks are not cheap, insurance is not cheap, storage lots are not cheap, and FUEL is not cheap. Most of us charge what we are ALLOWED to charge by the police agency that requests the tow. It's like this....I'm no doctor so I don't try to tell a doctor what he can charge. I pay what he says I owe, and if I don't like it.....I GET A NEW DOCTOR!!!!!!
Simpsons and Williams are not the only "surviving companies" in this town. Adkins has been around a long time, Grants, Gary Pusey's, 56th, Smullens....all around for 15 or more years. All doing the same thing.....trying to make a buck, just like you.

  15. WHATS WRONG WITH NEW TOW TRUCKS IT THE BEST YOU ALL SHOULD TRY

  17. sign your name instead of signing anon... everyone is entitled to their opinion. but when the facts come down. that is whats going on.. everyone is in the business to make money. i never once dropped any names and i thought it was right stupid how someone wrote that Delmarva Towing sucked over not changing a tire. alot of towing companies don't change tires. but as i said alot of what is said is really going on. i hear it everyday from the ppl that get burned.. and im def not afraid to sign my name so why should you all. I've always thought alot of about Eddie Tindal think he's a nice guy, attack wasn't towards him sorry if it sounded that way. Also Smullens, Two Dads and Grants very nice ppl. as for 56th street - crud balls... end of story. say what cha want. i know at the end of the day we are honest and not trying to get rich we do what we love and don't get much sleep or praise for the work we do in this industry. Yes I am very proud of Simpsons towing and what its become in 50 years. have a great night

  19. sounds like josh worrys to much about other tow co.should think about their own self not worring about new tow trucks because i heard that you are not much better than them .just alot of talk!!!!

  20. Old companies or new companies, it does not make a difference. It is just a fact that there are a few companies out there and you know who you are, doing bad business practices. It gives all the other honest companies a bad name as well. I own a small company and I just try to survive with the calls that I get. When I get the call no matter if it is 3 in the morning or 12 noon I respond and do my job.As for my charges I charge as everyone does. Most companies on the rotation have had to submit their charges for approval to the apprioate police agency. We don't ask for alot, we just want to be paid for our time and services. Try owning trucks, paying insurance, paying your employees and paying rent on your storage lot,and paying almost $5 a gallon for fuel, it all adds up.Every call is different, there are different circumstances for each one. Yea sometimes we show up,back up to the car, load it and go. But what about the times where it is 100 ft. off of the roadway flipped over in a field? We have to do what we have to in a timely fashion, and get out of there, especially if we have to block a major highway. We are out there everyday just trying to do a job that we are called to do.

  21. Josh, go whine in private to your Daddy and GrandDaddy. Your lack of professional business experience and your immaturity shows with your postings, AND you don't do your company any favors with this public whining.
Everyone else is probably busy trying to make an honest living, while it appears you have too much time on your hands. Get a life, man.

    ReplyDelete
  22. this is whole post wasn't about whining or new shiny wreckers lol. it started out as someone was accussing Delmarva Towing in scaming customers and Insurance companys by not answering the phone. but that story was one sided and never heard Delmarva's end of it. Like STEVE said at 1134am very well put by the way. There are companies out there doing bad business and they know who they are. In no way am I saying Delmarva is one of them. Thats just where this post started and for all we know that customer was just pissed off they got tow'd just like everyone is and thought they could take it out on them on the internet. As for anon at 1245 you obviously don't see the bigger picture. My life involves towing and always will. Just the industry needs a better image and some of you guys do a great job of that... More of you do then don't.. like i said before i have respect for alot of the towers out there but simply some of you don't get mine. Just the way it is. Thats life. And i must have just as much time on my hands as you do typing your post. have a great day. This will be the last post i'll make to this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  23. With everything being said on these two posts, there are honest companies and not-so-honest companies. You will find that everywhere. Those who are not-so-honest are probably mad right now, because they are in the spotlight. These men and women work their butts off and put their lives on the line to do a job. How many times have you ridden past an accident and see a tow truck driver in the road trying to get the vehicle onto their rig. It's real easy for someone to be rubbernecking and watching the flashing lights and hit the tow truck driver. I've seen it almost happen dozens of times. Don't forget about the poles with wires laying on top of the vehicles and the tow truck drivers trying to maneuver the vehicles out from under them. One bad move and they are history. The next time you see an accident, think about that. These people get out of their warm beds in the middle of the night to do a service and I feel that they should be given more respect than they are given!

  24. Ok, enough is enough. Do any of you have a life? Every company has problems, issues, irritated customers. There are some good and some bad, some amateurs and some pros. We all live in the same town and most of us have grown up with each other. There is not a company out there that hasn't had some disgruntled customer for whatever the reason. It is a very stressful situation to be broke down on the side of the road, leaving your vehicle and your family at the mercy of a stranger. Most of who are good, decent family people.

So why the name calling and mud slinging? Penis envy? Get a grip why don't ya! Your malicious comments don't just hurt the person or company you are slinging at, it affects their families! Their children! So I ask you to play nice and think before you send in a comment. Everyone is making a living and doing the best they can with what they have.

And I will sign my name....Kerry Schoepf-wife of Jeff Simpson and proud of it for 16 years. He is a great man and would give you the shirt off his back in the cold if you needed it. He has done free tows, payed for hotels, bought food, babysat kids, given rides home, called family members, done laundry....all for customers. That is the extra touch that Simpsons' gives. Community grown, community owned. No need to fear any of the gentlemen up there at any hour of the day or night. They are all family men, awesome fathers, loving husbands, great friends, and dedicated wrecker drivers. They stand by their name and the reputation that their father/grandfather has worked so hard to build. So get off the computer, tend to your own and have a wonderful day.

  28. It seems to me that "josh" from Simpsons Towing started the mudslinging, only after some upset people complained about other companies. Tell your boy to simma down now. He isn't the only guy in town that can run a wrecker. All companies want a good reputation dont they? What gives him the right to throw companies under the bus??? THINK before you type. Just because a company has a new truck or trucks does NOT mean they are scamming the insurance companies or customers. That is ridiculous. Who built Simpsons Towing to what it is??? Not Josh. Bob and Jeff did. Josh is just young and immature, and it's too bad that he has made his company look kinda stupid. His opinions of other towing companies should be kept to himself or to his company, not put out for everyone to see. Its one thing for the general public to voice opinions, but quite another when towing "professionals" hammer each other. He opened this can of worms, and now he has to deal with the backlash. Dont post if you dont want to hear any shit from others!!! Bob Simpson runs a great company, honest and fair, however Joshs' attitude should be put in check. Just my personal opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hey Joe, maybe you could pose a question to the public asking the opinions on the various towing companies, not just the ones involved on this blog??? maybe a poll or something?? Maybe some of the towing rules and regulations should be posted for all to see.....

    ReplyDelete
  30. i really doubt Josh is worried about the backlash. its a blog.. he posted what he thought and felt . and he didn't seem to show much additude either. i thought he post were well written. everyone is entitled to their opinion. sometimes its better to say nothing at all tho. i do agree. it really doesn't seem to be as big as a deal as everyone is making it out to be.

  37. I think Mrs Kerry Shoephf put it very well when she said its also about family, bc it is a family business, so get off of the computer and tend to yours... And I know the simpsons as well. They are kind generous people. Not one of them is to be feared??? Makes no sense, the person who is mudslinging all of this mis information must have a personal vendetta against Jeff Simpson and/or his family. Because these people are good people, its just too obvious.

  38. Did anyone see that these accusations of Jeff Simpson being such a feared man, are based off of something that was copied and pasted from case search, well thats fine, but take a closer look, its from 2001 and it was nolle prosec. bc of probable cause, no facts, no evidence, nothing

  39. Sheesh- It seems like everyone is getting all in a huffy about nothing. Ganging up on each other and what not. In towing, as in other industries, there are crooks and people stiffing customers. I recently heard reports of Bower's charging over 300-400 dollars for a police tow- not flipped over or anything special..just a tow. Also heard drivers from 56St getting to scene same time as the customers requested choice and the driver from 56st made the customer pay cash just for them to drop the car off their hook. No need to gang up on Josh if there is SOME truth to what is being said here. Shame on all of the towers here. All towers put their lives at risk standing on the side of the road with cars flying by and most provide respectable service. And those that are saying Josh is immature for saying his opinion- then you are just as immature for saying yours. Blogs like this keeps things stirred up in the community and does nothing but turn people against one another. it started out as a accusation against Delmarva Towing and now turned in PERSONAL attacks that hurt them and their FAMILY. If everyone just minded their business then we could all atleast pretend everything is happy and jolly!
