Berlin Chamber Announces Fiddlers Show Will Not Go On In September

BERLIN – The Berlin Fiddlers Convention will not take place next month as COVID-19 remains a concern.

The Berlin Chamber of Commerce announced in a statement Monday that in an abundance of caution the Fiddlers Convention, set for Sept. 25-27, had been canceled.

“This event has been a favorite of visitors and locals for almost three decades and will be sorely missed by all,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, the global pandemic and the very thing that makes our narrow streets such an endearing venue also prevent us from responsibly hosting a large-scale event and ensure the safety of our visitors, musicians, vendors, sponsors, merchants and volunteers.”

Ivy Wells, the town’s economic and community development director, said she understood the reasoning behind the cancelation, as the event was three days and drew large crowds of both performers and attendees.

  1. So stupid. Everyone just wear a mask and open everything back up.

    1. I would if you can tell me how it helps and guarantee that a piece of material over your face is the answer

  2. Absolutely the weakest, dumbest decision. The Town could have hired Antifa to conduct the Convention, if they are worried about the virus.
Surely with all the gatherings and protests with thousands of people that have been involved in and are involved in, the virus would be no problem for them, and the Fiddler’s Convention could go on. I do not think they would charge anything, but the right to “protest”.

  3. Really? In September. Where are the protesters when you need them. They assemble by the thousands in cities across our Nation with no virus problem. May be the Berlin council and Mayor need to check with them in regards to procedures that allow for such large events to be conducted with no subsequent consequences. Makes sense to me.

  4. You have to be kidding! Why didn’t they seek the advice and direction from those conducting the John Lewis funeral. Surely, they would provide the advice and instructions for free on how to conduct large gatherings in a limited space with no virus consequences. It seems to me that they are just too lazy, ill informed and oblivious to the reality that is taking place all around them.

  5. See, the fiddlers show doesn’t generate millions of dollars of revenue like the White Marlin Open.
I guess for some reason musicians playing together on stage are more susceptible to Covid than fisherman on 🚣‍♂️ boats.

  6. They could just invite Creepy Joe Biden to show up and a few Girl Scouts then he will "Fiddle" with them!

  7. Berlin is really going to the dogs! Putting lives before dollars! OC leaders and businesses are appalled at this reckless decision.

  8. Thought many decided and kinda accepted 2020 was going to be a year to punt pretty much everything as is.. Right wrong indifferent of course. Yes the effect is ridiculous from a financial standpoint but both sides of the equation does work.

Bike Week - our gen wants to partake and its all over the DELMARVA, yet most restaurants here on the island (OC) aren't working properly. Who will take responsibility in the inlet or convention center IF......? Does the hospitality industry really have enough time to project what to order for Mid Sept? They can't figure out what to order now - let alone wait for government decisions and rules. Not to mention - will folks actually come? Order too much, its a loss, order not enough another loss.

May/June/July/Aug has all been punted. Hell City Fail just dumped another $100K towards the airshow next weekend AND still isn't sure.

Sunfest they are waving on this as we speak. Err on the side of caution is a conservative route - even though many don't like it. Plus side, there could be more stimulus coming that may help.

Terrible times we are in and the holidays are right around the corner.

  10. The rich people are having THEIR way with their tournament, why not the fiddlers having their show? I guess we see who the governent thinks is more important.
