Lockdown-free Sweden is seeing a 'very positive' downward trend in cases, country's coronavirus expert reveals as he dismisses wearing masks on public transport as 'pointless'

Sweden is seeing a 'very positive' downward trend in coronavirus cases after its much-debated decision not to go into lockdown, its top epidemiologist says.

Anders Tegnell said the number of seriously sick patients was 'close to zero' with the curve of new virus cases also bending downwards.

Tegnell is also continuing to play down the effectiveness of face masks - saying there is 'no point' wearing them on public transport.

  1. They have Free health care paid for by taxes raised from citizens. Also have free college if it’s an approved major that benefits Sweden’s society like working for the government if not you pay out of pocket. But school tax must also be paid to cover free college. Sweden is very green country and Their main export is crude oil. Refugee crises and rape crises aren’t the best but it’s free.

  2. 11:26 my parents grew up in Denmark, pretty similar social beliefs since they are connected by a big bridge. Paying taxes for social programs is viewed as patriotic. Reform is favored over heavy policing and prisons aren't run for profit. There is much the United States can learn from that way of thinking.

  3. 11:26 The great majority of the Covid deaths in Sweden were from those being treated by the "Free health care." In Sweden private health care is available for those who can afford it. Those people had much better outcomes then those who had no other choice but to rely on the government to make the health care decisions concerning the treatment plan for Covid instead of independent medical professionals. We had some of this going on here in the US. Most of the deaths in NY came out of the NYC public hospitals (mainly in Brooklyn and the Bronx). NYC public hospitals have been under fire for a decade due to sub standard care.

  5. Sweden is a nation with extraordinary high tax rates. The average worker not only pays 30 percent of her or his income in visible taxes, but, additionally, close to 30 percent in hidden taxes.

  10. Yes, if I can get a job in Sweden I would go in a minute..trains everywhere, incredible ancient cities, quality house construction, excellent healthcare ( I've used it several times while visiting), and a solid middle class because the country has high taxes on the rich...its like AMerica if conservationism never existed....its also much safer for black people...and very very few police who are highly trained...
