March of the Credentialed Morons

1. Academic Disaster

For at least the past two decades, our colleges and universities have devolved into leftist training camps where free speech is labeled hateful and induced leftist conformity is the order of the day. Even professors at the University of Chicago, famed for its free speech code, fear to speak out.

Mr. Cochrane wrote on June 15, “I spent much of my last few years of teaching afraid that I would say something that could be misunderstood and thus be offensive to someone. Many of my colleagues report the same worries.”

If that level of fear accurately describes the situation at the University of Chicago, where the university administration has deservedly won national attention for coming down clearly, decisively, and publicly on the “open debate” side of the campus speech wars, imagine just how bad things are in the rest of academia.

In a moment when black Americans fear being killed by police, the concern that tenured professors might be inconvenienced might seem trivial. The worry at Chicago, as described by Mr. Cochrane, was less that university administrators would, on their own initiative, rule speech out of bounds.

It was more that a student would lodge a grievance that would in turn generate an investigation that would then accumulate a momentum of its own -- with no due process. It could end with a teacher falsely labeled as a racist, one of the worst things a person can be called in contemporary America.

  2. It is the university sytem that has put the racist poison of identity marxism into youth heads since the 1980's.

Hopefully, this pandemic will force many or most colleges to shutter. I pray that both UMES and SU go down.

    1. UMES has been imploding due to laziness, apathy and entitlement. Salisbury has actually worked hard to grow and be consistently recognized as the most fiscally prudent campus in the university system of Maryland HOWEVER- due to politics of one had to close, they would close SU before UMES and we all know why. Doing the right thing would be viewed as “the man” keeping them down

  3. In my days at college we were actually taught subject matter and learned. There were no demonstrations, no fears of recrimination, and personal opinions were reserved for debates over beers at the local watering hole.

  4. The parents who took out loans to pay for a social justice degree still say nothing. Just like Christmas. When you Stop the money?? It all goes away.

  5. The good speaker advised he was afraid to offend or be misunderstood, WTH? He’s at the upper level (college) and doesn’t understand freedom of speech. Perhaps this is why we are in the state (state of mind) we’re in today. Rush calls it “minds of mush”, while I call it “chicken chit”. Adult humans walking around scared of anything and everything. Understandably there are some dudes that can whip my butt, but I don’t fear any man. Doubt the nut jobs will need much surgery in the future that are looking for a sex change, because there wont be any nuts hanging around to swap out. In all my years, I just didn’t prepare myself for the make-over of America. Sad indeed.

  6. Stop government funding and they will be greatly diminish and may disappear. Our goverment is funding marxism and communism by giving any money what so ever to any public education.
