Coronavirus: Asymptomatic spread 'appears to be rare,' WHO official says

The spread of coronavirus by people not showing symptoms "appears to be rare," a World Health Organization [WHO] official said Monday.

“We have a number of reports from countries who are doing very detailed contact tracing – they are following asymptomatic cases, they are following contacts and they are not finding secondary transmission onward, it’s very rare,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove said during a news briefing. “Much of that is not published in the literature.”

“We’re constantly looking at this data, and we’re trying to get more information from countries to truly answer this question,” she added. “It still appears to be rare that an asymptomatic individual actually transmits onward.”

Speaking during the briefing, the head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that the coronavirus pandemic was worsening globally, even as the situation in Europe was improving.

  2. And the experts' opinions change every day which tells us they do not know what they are dealing with.

  3. Bottom line just like I said from the beginning coronavirus and Covid 19 are 'behaving' just like any other virus and the illness caused by the virus. All viruses have the potential to become deadly and they do. I don't blame our CDC though because as a government agency they air on the side of caution and do not release information until the data is there that can not be refuted. I know this is the WHO but soon we will be hearing this same from the CDC.

  4. No they didn't "reverse" 3:07. What they are now saying is more studies are needed to determine. The official who stated asymptomatic spread is rare was basing his comment on the fact that so far studies have proven this virus behaves as all others. And in all other asymptomatic spread is rare to non existence.

  6. Do you and I really need a "scientist" to tell us this virus is a minimal threat?
    Really?

Look at pics of the protests and the Floyd funeral.
Now tell me there is a virus threat - with a straight face.

    Please.
