NYC's health chief faces calls to quit 'after rejecting an NYPD plea for 500,000 face masks and telling a top police chief "I don't give two rats' a***s about your cops"'

New York City's health commissioner brutally dismissed an urgent request from the NYPD for 500,000 protective face masks as the scale of the coronavirus crisis grew.

Sources told the New York Post that Dr. Oxiris Barbot told a high ranking NYPD official 'I don't give two rats' a***s about your cops' when the request was made.

The remark is said to have been made in March during a phone conversation with Terence Monahan, the police force's Chief of Department, the Post was told on Wednesday by sources close to the matter.

Monahan had asked Barbot for 500,000 masks to help protect police officers in the city from the coronavirus as cases were rising sharply, but she told him only 50,000 could be provided.

    2. She is NYC’ Health Chief. She needs to be canned. She demonstrated a total lack of leadership and dismissed all of the law enforcement in NYC all at once. She obviously can’t handle the responsibilities she was bestowed. Indefensible and unforgivable.

  4. 8:55, you missed it by a mile. NYC at that point was a glowing red hot spot. There are a lot of cops out of service because they tested positive, or actually got sick. She was offering slightly more than one mask per cop; that's inadequate. She missed the opportunity to make a plan for continuing supply.

Plus, she's on record urging New Yorkers to come out and celebrate Chinese New Year at the outset of the plague; undoubtedly helped it to get a running start.

Getting canned would be more symbolic than anything else.
