Nada For Nadler: Supreme Court Blocks House Democrats From Receiving Mueller Grand Jury Material

The US Supreme Court on Wednesday handed the Trump administration a win - blocking a request by the House Judiciary Committee for grand jury material gathered by Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation. The court issued a stay while an appeal over the records plays out.

That said, the court put the case on a fast track, giving the Trump administration until June 1 to file its appeal, which Bloomberg infers to mean that the court will likely announce before the end of June or July whether it will hear arguments late this year.

Earlier this year, DOJ officials were ordered by two lower courts to hand over redacted portions of Mueller's 448-page report at the request of the House committee chaired by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) - who argued that they 'urgently' needed to see redacted materials.

The administration says a federal trial judge lacked power to unseal the information. Grand jury materials are normally sealed, but federal rules let a judge authorize disclosure for “judicial proceedings.” The key legal question is whether that includes House impeachment inquiries.

A federal appeals court ruled that impeachment proceedings qualified, saying courts had let lawmakers see grand jury materials during the impeachment inquiries of Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. U.S. Solicitor GeneralNoel Francisco asked the Supreme Court to put that ruling on hold.

“The government will suffer irreparable harm absent a stay,” Francisco argued. “Once the government discloses the secret grand-jury records, their secrecy will irrevocably be lost.”

House General Counsel Douglas Letter countered that lawmakers had already waited more than a year for the information. -Bloomberg

"The committee and the public continue to suffer grave and irreparable injury each additional day the district court’s order is prevented from going into effect," wrote the House General Cou

  2. Hold up, hold up. So Trump and supporters have claimed this is a witch hunt and a sham the whole time. They have dragged Mueller's name through the mud and smeared him despite his status as a decorated vet. Yet they are scared of a broader release of the evidence? And you guys think that is cool? A "victory"?

    2. No, but we need to return to respect for the Rule of Law. We have been off track for many years, including the terms of Nixon, Clinton, etc. I am a Democrat and want the court serve its legitimate purpose again.

    3. Trump is not "scared". It all boils down to Democrats trusting the truth. Remember all the attorneys on the Mueller Russia probe were Democrats. Besides, this is a witch hunt by Democrats - Trump was cleared of any wrong doing but Nadler is searching for something - anything - to start impeachment Act 2. Are you not tired of wasting taxpayers money on Nadler's dream to get rid of Trump and be a Hero. Where have the Democrats been hiding the last 2 months with paid leave. Now they are staying home until the end of July or is it August. Definitely not essential so let's get rid of them for a changeπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  7. Sad the amount of our money Nadler has wasted on fake investigations and the amount of time he hasn't served the people who voted him into office on these fake investigations. He's just a vindictive man because Trump beat him on projects in New York. Just an evil wasteful vindictive man. Term limits, we need term limits for all political positions. I'm done. I'll go back to my social distancing.

You are joking right? If you remember correctly it was the democrats who didn't want a thing released. They fought tooth and nail. It was all about we can't reveal "sources and methods." So "sources and methods" were redacted. They got what they wished for. So now to fool the brain deads like you they go to court knowing full well they will lose and then holler what are they hiding. And your low IQ butt falls for it every time. It is so gross how they ram the BS down your throat and like the imbecile you are who can't think you gulp it down

  9. It's just an effort by Dems to put more filler in their nothingburger that were the impeachment hearings. The "clear and compelling evidence" line was and remains a tease without substance. The Democrats voted to impeach based upon no demonstrable evidence: zero.
It is they who should be impeached for crimes against us, the nation and the Constitution.
