Hamptons citizens fear that summer tourists will bring more cases of COVID-19 out east as hotels plan to open for the summer.
Sceney hotels Gurney’s and Montauk Beach House, among others, plan to open with new policies. But on Thursday, the Town of East Hampton’s board wrote a letter — parts of which have been seen by Page Six — to Gov. Andrew Cuomo asking him to prohibit the opening of hotels and resorts until New York is further into the recovery process.
“A summertime influx of people into our area has the potential to cause renewed outbreaks,” says the letter. “We are hearing pleas from our residents to take action to protect them … We fear that adding hotel and motel visitors to the mix will simply overwhelm our town, creating an untenable, and avoidable, surge in the ongoing public health crisis.”
